In a great conversation with Glenn Beck, candidate for President and Senator, Rand Paul, (R-KY) discussed one of the best reasons for us to stand against Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton and the rise of socialism. The conversation begins with a wonderful discussion of Senator Paul’s personal Christian faith and his belief that faith and liberty go hand in hand. Paul has written a new book discussing the focus on faith by our founding fathers, and he leaned heavily on the brilliant Os Guinness and Don Devine as he explains why he believes in a libertarianism that relies on self-restraint.
While the discussion on his faith and the need for the GOP to focus on conservatism and liberty was very interesting, the best part of the conversation may well have been Paul’s assault on socialism. Paul uses his knowledge of history to show how socialism invariably leads to extermination.
The part of the conversation focusing on socialism starting around 6 minutes in:
“I’ve been trying to point out — I’m on a lot of college campuses, we have a big following on college campuses — there’s nothing sexy and there’s nothing cool about socialism.
What there is, is the implied force that goes with taking away your choice.
Only the state tells you what you can do, it’s the most anti-choice economic system. If you don’t listen, they fine you. If you don’t pay the fine, they imprison you. If you will not listen, ultimately, what has happened in history, people get mad when I say this, but they exterminate you. That’s what happened under Stalin.
People say, ‘Oh, no, no, he wants democratic socialism.’ The problem is, a majority can be just as bad as one single authoritarian and that’s why we shouldn’t allow any of our rights to be subject to a majority.”
