Rick Santorum May Well Be on the Way to Get My Vote for President!

The field of Republican presidential candidates has been wide open so far this year.  Candidates that have led in the polls at one time or other include Michelle Bachmann, Mitt Romney, Rick Perry, Rick Pawlenty and Herman Cain.  I’ve even seen some polls that gave the front-runner spot to Chris Christie and Sarah Palin, both of whom have opted not to jump into the presidential pool.

As some of the early state primaries and caucuses are drawing near, each Republican has been trying to formulate their policies on a number of different issues with the main topic, of course, being the economy.

As I’ve listened to them, there are things about each candidate that I like and things that I don’t like.  If I had to vote last week for one Republican presidential candidate, I’m not sure who it would have been.

However, over the weekend I found myself starting to lean towards former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, at least for now, and here is why.

In his speech this past Friday, Santorum laid out some of his social policies which I found very appealing.  Those policies are:

  • Re-instate ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ in the military
  • Push for a constitutional ban on abortion
  • Enforce the Defense of Marriage Act
  • Ban federal funding for embryonic stem cell research
  • Ban all funding for Planned Parenthood
  • Re-institute the Mexico City Policy that bans all taxpayer funding or promotion of abortion outside the US
  • Repeal the insurance mandate in Obamacare
  • Ban same-sex marriages on military bases
  • Abolish the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals

Knowing that he would be asked about the economy, Santorum said,

“The economy is inextricably linked to the moral fabric of this country.  And we can’t have a real solution-based conversation about fixing the economic problems in this country without faith and family being a large part of that conversation.  You cannot have limited government if you have broken families because someone has to pick up the pieces, and the ones who pick up the pieces are the taxpayers.”

Concerning the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, he said he would abolish it as it is the most liberal court in the land and I agree.  The 9th Circuit is very anti-family, anti-religion and anti-America.  However, instead of abolishing it, he should order the removal of those liberal judges and replace them with some that have a concern for our nation and family values.

Now, if Santorum wants to lock up my vote, all he needs to say in his next few speeches is that he would:

  • Enforce federal immigration laws including the arrest and deportation of ALL illegal immigrants and their children.  Tighten up board security by any means possible up to and including the deployment of US military troops along the entire border.
  • Repeal of Obamacare
  • Demand a balanced budget which would require the drastic reduction in the size of the federal government.  Insist the US government be run like a private sector business where you just can’t have your total expenses exceed your total income without going out of business.
  • Immediately evict the United Nations from American soil, along with the elimination of all US funding of the UN and UN organizations.
  • Ban same-sex marriages nation-wide.
  • Re-evaluate the billions of dollars being sent to other nations.  Stop all funding of nations that are not completely supportive of the US.  This would also include the ending of all funding to help rebuild mosques in the Middle East or other foreign infrastructure programs.  Stop the funding of medical programs in other countries (why should we be paying for other’s health care when so many American’s can’t afford coverage here at home?)
  • Re-instate the military retirement program allowing them to draw it upon their retirement and not at the Social Security retirement age.  These men and women have given twenty or more years of their lives to the country to protect us and our freedoms and they need to be rewarded properly for their service.
  • Urgently pursue all US oil and natural gas deposits with the purpose of making the US energy self-sufficient.

If Rick Santorum or any other candidate vowed to do these things, I would find myself seriously considering giving them my vote.
