Ever since former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney announced his intentions to run for the presidency, fellow Republicans have been critical about his role in Massachusetts’ health care law. Many claim that there is little difference between the health program Romney helped establish in Massachusetts and the national health plan known as Obamacare.
Romney has frequently tried to distance his Massachusetts plan with Obama’s pointing out a number of differences and claiming that his has nothing to do with Obama’s.
However, and if you can believe a liberal Democrat loving media source known as NBC News, they are reporting that they have obtained White House documents revealing just how Obama’s group went about formulating Obamacare. According to NBC News, the White House panel used Romney’s Massachusetts health care law as the starting point for the national plan. Then they worked with at least three of the advisors that helped draft the Massachusetts law.
A spokeswoman for the Romney campaign responded to questions about the NBC report by telling them that while the White House may claim that their plan is based upon the Massachusetts health care law, Romney still advocates that he is adamantly opposed to Obamacare and on his first day in office as President will grant a waiver from it to all 50 states. She then referred them to comments Romney made in April when he said, “He does me the great favor of saying that I was the inspiration of his plan. If that’s the case, why didn’t you call me? … Why didn’t you ask what was wrong? Why didn’t you ask if this was an experiment, what worked and what didn’t. … I would have told him, ‘What you’re doing, Mr. President, is going to bankrupt us.'”
Even though Romney claims he will waive all states from having to participate in Obamacare that is not to say that those Democrat controlled states will actually accept the waiver. Some state governors, such as Democrat Beshear in Kentucky is a loyal disciple of Obama and his health care plan and has refused to be involved in any legal challenges against it. It would not surprise me to see him and other loyal Obama minions to reject the waiver and enact the socialist program on their state’s people.
It also concerns this author that Romney did push for and enact a state health care plan and may opt to do the same to the nation to replace Obama’s with his own. Like many politicians, what he says during the campaign may and often does vary from what they actually do once elected.
