Russian Bombers Testing US Defenses

Since taking office six and half years ago, Barack Obama has slashed our military might by over half of what it was. He has reduced the number of military personnel, navy ships, planes, tanks and nuclear weapons at the same time Putin and other national leaders have been building up their military forces.

The other thing that has happened since Obama took office six and half years ago is that many world leaders see him as a joke. They see a weakened America and many question if America really has the capability of defending itself.

One of those world leaders that laugh at the mention of Barack Obama’s name is Russian President Vladimir Putin. He has openly criticized and mocked Obama, deservedly so. Many believe the Cold War between the United States and the former Soviet Union ended, but there are a growing number of things that indicate that we are once again in the Cold War status with Russia and Putin.

Putin is taking it seriously and Obama seems to care less. Over the Fourth of July weekend, it appeared that Putin was testing our defense system and we’ve heard nothing about it from the gutless White House.

At 10:30am July 4, the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) picked up two Russian planes approaching the coast of Alaska. The planes were identified as Russian Tupolev TU-96 long range bombers, each capable of carrying nuclear weapons. The US Air Force scrambled two F-22 Hornets to intercept the bombers and help turn them back towards Russia.

Thirty minutes later, another Russian bomber approached the central coastline of California and was again intercepted by a pair of F-15 fighters.

Lt. Gen. Thomas McInerney (Retired) once commanded NORAD in Alaska and says that these bomber approaches are very reminiscent of what took place in the height of the Cold War with the Soviet Union. He told the media:

“It’s becoming very obvious that Putin is testing Obama and his national-security team.”

“These long-range aviation excursions are duplicating exercises I experienced during the height of the Cold War when I commanded the Alaska Norad region.”

Back in April, Adm. Bill Gortney with NORAD commented that Russia is using their long range bombers to send a message to the US and Obama about their military capabilities.

Obama’s response to all of this military muscle flexing is to continue to slice and dice the US military into smaller and smaller pieces and then take another multi-million dollar vacation at taxpayer expense.
