Over the past few years we’ve all seen and heard of students who were told to change their clothes, turn their shirts inside out or face disciplinary action for violating the school dress code. I think of the student who wore an NRA Second Amendment shirt to school and was told it violated the school dress code because it had the image of gun. Back in 2012, a girl was told by a male teacher to take her Mitt Romney shirt off immediately right there in front of the rest of class because it offended him. Students in California and elsewhere have been told to remove their American flag shirts because it offended Hispanics and the list goes on and on.
Now you can add southern pride and history to the list of banned clothing items at some schools. A male student at Cabell Midland High School in West Virginia was threatened with discipline for wearing a shirt with a confederate flag on it. Even though he claimed that it had nothing to do with race or slavery, school officials made him turn it inside out.
The next day he wore a different shirt that also had an image of a confederate flag and the school officials told him that if he did it again that he would face suspension. The student’s mother, April Stanley says that the school is violating her son’s Frist Amendment right of free speech. She told the media that her son would like to educate fellow students and teachers about the historic meaning behind the Confederate flag and that it stands for many things other than race and slavery.
“He believes he should have his freedom of speech.”
“He’s not prejudiced at all. It’s not about slavery, and he’s trying to get that point across.”
However, school officials claim that the district banned the confederate flag over twenty years ago because of racial tensions. Yet, Stanley who spoke with school officials, about the discriminatory aspects of their dress code, referred to symbols and posters at the school promoting gay pride. Speaking to the media, she pointed out:
“There [are] also kids offended by the gay symbols and the gay flag.”
What it amounts to is that if blacks are offended, it’s banned. If gays are offended, it’s banned. If Christians are offended, they are ignored and the symbols are allowed.
What would happen if Christian students and parents started protesting the open displaying of homosexual items on school campuses, claiming that it offends them? If Christians all over the nation got off their duffs and took to school campuses all over the nation, do you think it would have any effect?
I doubt it. Our nation has fallen so far into a world of sin and debauchery that it would have little impact on the liberals running the public schools. The liberal media would crucify and mock the Christians, calling them homophobes, racist and bigots, when in fact it’s the blacks, Hispanics and gays that are racists and bigots.
Someone once referred to me as a homophobe because I’ve written against homosexuality. I responded by saying that I’m not a homophobe, but I am a God fearing Christian who believes what God said about homosexuality. Like Martin Luther stated so long ago, I added:
“Here I stand, I can do no other, so help me God. Amen.”
