One way to gauge how the upcoming presidential election is going is to track the Left’s actions regarding illegal immigration. If they sense a victory for the Democrat (or even a squishy Republican), we’re likely to see the status quo continue. But it’s when the “right” (or wrong, depending on your perspective) Republican starts gaining momentum, gaining support from voters – this is when the Left will start freaking out and ramping up the hysteria with not only outrageous claims against the right, but proposed preemptive legislative action.
So, rather than relying on polls and pundits to tell us who is winning, and how to think of what’s been said or done, watch for the actions of the Left and the establishment Right. Watch what they do – follow their wacky legislative proposals, not just nationally, but within majority democrat states.
This is how we should gauge the mood of the left. This is how we tell whether they think they are winning or losing. And, at least so far, it appears they believe they are losing on the issue of illegals.
There are more than 200 sanctuary cities and counties in the United States “that protect criminal aliens from deportation.” These jurisdictions have “policies, laws, executive orders, or regulations that impede open communication and information exchanges” between local, state and federal law enforcement.
“Although federal regulations plainly require cooperation, the federal government has never sued nor sanctioned a sanctuary jurisdiction, nor denied federal funds.” It’s been quite the opposite. The Obama administration has encouraged lawless behavior, actually thwarting the efforts of their own ICE agents.
But even after seven long and painful years of Obama, there are still only two sanctuary states – Rhode Island and North Dakota. Okay, Rhode Island I get – but North Dakota?
So why aren’t there more? Simple – they haven’t been needed. Liberal states have understood that under Obama they haven’t had to worry about protecting their precious illegal invaders from the big bad government and previously passed tyrannical laws.
But Judicial Watch is reporting that, “A surge in serious crimes by illegal immigrants — many repeat offenders — who have been shielded by sanctuary laws isn’t stopping legislators in Massachusetts from quietly pushing for a measure that would protect undocumented aliens statewide. To date, only a couple of cities — Amherst and Boston — have sanctuary measures in place.
But state legislators want the entire state of Massachusetts to mimic the city of San Francisco, which “protects illegal aliens and bans any sort of cooperation with federal authorities, even when the perpetrator is guilty of a serious offense” — even in the face of the “gruesome July 4 San Francisco murder of a young woman [Kate Steinle] by an illegal immigrant thug with seven felony convictions.”
If the measure is passed, “all public agencies in Massachusetts will be banned from divulging information on illegal immigrants to federal authorities and state employees will be forbidden from denying any taxpayer-funded assistance, benefits or participation in public programs to those in the country illegally.”
The bill also stipulates that, “It shall be the policy of the commonwealth to support and encourage any and all residents in their attempts to obtain lawful immigration status and, if they choose, citizenship.”
In case you’re wondering, that was the money quote. This is the essence of the Left’s entire effort in support of these illegal invaders. The political Left cares less of the welfare of these people than we do, as demonstrated by their rabid support of Planned Parenthood.
See, saving a baby from a butcher’s forceps won’t garner them a single vote. However, granting all those illegals American citizenship can win you an election.
Without that incentive, democrats would be champions against illegal immigration, as they once were.
So just keep an eye out, as Republicans continue to garner more support, for just how wacky the Left will become, as they see their pet issue dissolve in front of them.
