So, this is a terrifying development. During congressional hearings on the Syrian refugees, FBI Director Jim Comey admitted that there was just no way for our government to vet all of the refugees who would be moving into our nation. The sad fact is that we may well be opening our doors wide for the very terrorists we are fighting in the Middle East.
Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) wondered how the FBI would keep American safe from the possibility that terrorists might use the refugee crisis to gain entrance into the U.S.
“We can only query against that which we have collected. And so if someone has never made a ripple in the pond in Syria in a way that would get their identity or their interest reflected in our database, we can query our database until the cows come home, but there will be nothing show up because we have no record of them,” Director Comey replied.
Thompson then mentioned that “a lot of us are concerned about whether you have enough information available to you to do an accurate vetting.”
Comey seemed to appreciate the concern but had no way to alleviate it because he reiterated, “You can only query what you’ve collected.” He then dropped some even more troubling news. The simple fact of the matter is that while we have a pretty solid vetting system set up in Iraq, we have no such mechanism in Syria because we’ve had no time to do that kind of work.
“And with respect with Iraqi databases, we had far more because of our country’s work there for a decade. This is a different situation,” Comey told Congress.
The Obama administration is putting millions of American lives at risk with their decision to throw open the doors of our nation to these Muslim refugees from Syria. This may yet end up being the most damning and disastrous legacy of the Obama administration.
