What Should Schools Teach About Sex?

For over two centuries America was a Christian nation and taught Christian values in the schools.  Topics such as sex were not allowed to be taught in the schools and were left to the parents to handle.

During this time, most Americans still held on to Christian values which included teaching their children about abstinence and saving sex only for marriage.  Yes, we are all sinners and sometimes fall into temptations and during this time, some young people ignored their parent’s and church’s teachings and committed fornication anyway.  If it resulted in pregnancy, it was a major deal, bringing shame to the entire family.

Once the Bible and Christianity were removed from the classroom in the 1960s, liberals began pushing sex education to be taught in the public schools.  At the beginning, these classes still taught abstinence as the best and safest means to prevent STDs and unwanted pregnancies.  And if a girl got pregnant, the shame was not as great as it used to be.

Nearly 50 years later, social and sexual liberalism is the foundation in most public school systems.  Not only have the sex education classes become pornographic, it no longer teaches abstinence.  In fact, current sex education actually encourages and endorses teens to have sex by teaching safe sex and handing out contraceptives without the parents knowing.  Many schools also teach the kids where to go to get an abortion, again without parental knowledge or permission.

The results have been devastating.  Numerous polls reveal that over 80% of boys and 70% of girls claim to have had sex by the time they graduate high school.  The rates of STD’s are much higher than 50 years ago and abortions are ranging between 800,000 to 1,100,000 per year.

Probably the most damaging effect of the liberal sex education in the schools is that nothing sacred is left for the marriage bed.  Couples no longer experience that special bond that is formed when they properly consummate the marriage.  And the sexual permissiveness has had a huge role in the number of divorces that take place each year along with the number of couples that live together without first getting married.

In an attempt to curb the current trends, Republican senators in Wisconsin have passed a measure that would require teachers to teach abstinence and marriage are better and safer alternatives over contraception.  The measure passed by a 17-15 vote that ran straight down party lines with all of the liberal Democrats voting against it.  The bill is now headed to the state Assembly (House of Representatives) which is also controlled by Republicans.

A year ago, the Democrats passed a measure requiring any school or teacher who teaches sex education to also provide the students with information about different contraception methods.  Under the proposed bill being pushed by the Republicans, teachers can still provide information on contraception, but they are to stress the only safe method of avoiding STDs and unwanted pregnancies is abstinence.

Republican state Sen. Glenn Grothman commented on the proposed measure saying, “We are trying to back away from the bill passed last year that we feel mandated sex ed that was too nonjudgmental, too explicit and at too young an age.”

Democrat state Sen. Jon Erpenback also commented about the measure saying that in passing the bill, Wisconsin was, “taking a step back to the Flintstone era.”

This demonstrates the clear lack of moral values held by members of the Democratic Party when compared to the concerns of state Republicans that care about their children and what they are taught.  And this difference in moral values between the two Parties is not limited to just Wisconsin, it is evident in every state and at the national level.  This is why voters need to rid the local, state and national scene of all of these liberals who insist on promoting the sexual and moral corruption of our kids and replace them with conservative politicians who will protect our children and their values.
