A 14-year-old Kentucky girl saved her sisters by firing a 9mm pistol when an intruder broke into their home.
The incident was confirmed by the Lawrence County, Kentucky, Sheriff’s Department, according to WSAZ TV.
Last Sunday, several men in a white car pulled up in front of the girl’s home. The men emerged from the vehicle and then tried to kick down the doors to the house.
The three teenaged girls inside the home quickly called 911. The girls were home alone as their father was at work and their mother had gone to the store, police said.
The unknown attacker also tried to gain entry to the home by using a shovel to break a back window.
As the men talked outside the home, the 14-year-old girl retrieved a pistol.
She then fired a shot in the direction of the intruders causing them to flee.
Lawrence County Constable Daniel Castle and Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputy Cory Cook responded to the 911 call but were unable to find the intruders.
“I think she did take some necessary steps to protect herself,” Constable Castle said. “Although she could have done a little bit better, considering that she is 14-years-old, she did a good job. I encourage everyone that can legally carry a firearm, to carry a firearm to protect themselves and their families just in case the need arises.”
The police have asked the public to contact them if they have any further information about the men who tried to break into the girls’ home.
