In pre-World War Two Germany, large groups of Brownshirted thugs raided libraries and people’s homes to gather books with “dangerous ideas” in them so they could be burned. Today, Amazon.com is performing the electronic version of the exact same crime by banning Christian books from its services.
Amazon’s latest electronic book burning was perpetrated against Catholic psychologist Joe Dallas and activist Anne Paulk, of the Restored Hope Network, whose books were suddenly banned by Amazon despite having already sold tens thousands of copies already.
According to the Christian Post:
Dallas’ book — Desires in Conflict: Hope for Men Who Struggle with Sexual Identity — and Paulk’s book — Restoring Sexual Identity: Hope for Women Who Struggle with Same-Sex Attraction — both of which until the past few days were sold on the platform, are now no longer available for purchase
The books promulgate the idea that homosexuals can change their sexual outlook and train themselves to become heterosexual. But radical gay activists despise this concept and have for years engaged in a scorched earth policy against groups that believe the idea and therapists who try to help people with this treatment.
These therapies are also often closely connected to Christian ideals; another reason liberals hate the concept.
“Amazon’s decision is no surprise since today’s culture is caving to the goals of the LGBTQ political movement, which have always included the silencing [of] any disapproval of homosexuality,” Joe Dallas told the paper.
“It would be awfully naive to think it will stop here,” Dallas added. “First, the LGBTQ movement will convince the culture that telling homosexuals they can change is dangerous. Then they’ll convince the culture that calling homosexuality a sin is dangerous. Then the government will tell the pastors of America what they can or cannot say on this subject, and the culture will approve.”
After Amazon’s electronic book burning, a group of formerly gay people who support the therapy of changing sexual proclivities launched a petition to warn Amazon about its actions and demand a retraction.
“We are outraged that a smear campaign by one individual (who stated here that he never read these books) could convince Amazon to censor all books, audiobooks, and Kindle material related to our experiences and viewpoints,” the petition reads. The petition has earned nearly 3,000 signatures.
“For every major issue, there are two sides to each story. For one side to be bullied and censored on every platform is counter to the values we have long held in common with Amazon,” the petition adds.
These are not the first books on “conversion therapy” banned by Amazon. The bookseller also recently banned books by Joseph Nicolosi, a Catholic psychologist who died in 2017.
“he books Amazon banned are an important part of my father’s legacy. Just one of his books had 400 endorsements, from a man who said Reparative Therapy of Male Homosexuality ‘saved my marriage,’ to several past presidents of the American Psychological Association,” Joseph Nicolosi Jr. said in a statement.
“Amazon’s book ban puts radical LGBT ideology ahead of established science about how people leave homosexuality. It is anti-choice, anti-science, and anti-American,” Nicolosi added.
