A black girl in a Virginia grade school admitted to reporting a fake hate crime and was left apologizing for pushing the claim that white kids held her down and cut off her dreadlocks in school.
The black girl, Amari Allen, 12, claimed that she had been bullied for months by white kids at Immanuel Christian School, in Annandale, Virginia.
The girl reported that several white boys grabbed her, pushed her to the floor, held her down, and then cut off several strands of her dreadlocks hair style.
Allen also claimed that the boys routinely stole her lunch and then ate it in front of her.
But now, after a short investigation, the girl is now admitting that she lied about the whole thing.
“We can now confirm that the student who accused three of her classmates of assault has acknowledged that the allegations were false. We’re grateful to the Fairfax County Police Department for their diligent work to investigate these allegations,” Head of School Stephen Danish said in a statement on Monday.
The girl’s family also put out their own statement on the incident.
“To those young boys and their parents, we sincerely apologize for the pain and anxiety these allegations have caused, the family wrote.
The girl’s family also apologized to the school’s administrators for the “damage” done to the school’s reputation.
“We understand there will be consequences,” the family concluded, “and we’re prepared to take responsibility for them.
They added that they hope everyone involved will be able to forgive them.
