Calif. Restaurant Tries to Ban Customers with MAGA Hats, Blowback is Instant

The owner of a restaurant in San Francisco was seen virtue signaling to beat the band by claiming that he would not allow people wearing a Donald Trump hat in his restaurant. Fortunately, the blowback was nearly immediate.

It appears that the restaurant owner was reacting to the lies told by liberals about the Covington Catholic School kids who liberals claimed “taunted” a Native American but who instead were the actual victims in the situation.

J. Kenji López-Alt, owner of the Wursthall restaurant and beer hall in San Mateo, California, jumped to his social media last weekend to bar Trump fans from his establishment, Daily Wire reported.

“It hasn’t happened yet, but if you come to my restaurant wearing a MAGA cap, you aren’t getting served, same as if you come in wearing a swastika, white hood, or any other symbol of intolerance and hate,” he wrote. “MAGA hats are like white hoods except stupider because you can see exactly who is wearing them.”

“We aim to bring the festivity and community of the German beer hall to the Bay Area, and hope to create a gathering space for friends and families,” the restaurant’s website says. “San Mateo natives, Adam Simpson and Tyson Mao, have partnered with James Beard award winning chef Kenji López-Alt to deliver a German and Austrian inspired menu for your enjoyment.”

López-Alt then clammed up and wouldn’t talk more about his ban claiming that it might “endanger”his staff.

But even the left-wing San Francisco Chronicle reported that the overwhelmingly liberal area gave the restaurant “mixed reactions” over the ban.

The paper found quite a few customers who claim to be liberals but who opposed the restauranteur’s move.

“They already feel like they’re being demonized by what they call the liberal elite,” one told the paper. “We shouldn’t add fire to that. Instead, it should be us creating a dialogue, leaving a space open to discuss the issues.”

Another slammed the idea that a hat tells you all you need to know about someone. “I don’t think it matters to me about the rule, but the hat doesn’t just tell you all about the person. All people are different. It’s just weird, to me, at least, that he would make it part of this business,” he said.

Still another said it was un-American to be “discriminating against those with different political views.”

Looks like even the liberals in San Fran think that López-Alt is a jerk.

The owner of the restaurant has now backed off the ban claiming that he made a mistake to issue his proclamation without first bothering to ask his partners and employees how they felt about the idea.
