Christmas-Hating Leftists Launch War on Michigan Grade School’s Three Wise Men Display

Tis the season for the left’s war on Christmas to heat up again and the latest target for destruction is a Three Wise Men display that has been a tradition for a Michigan elementary school.

Liberals never stop trying to destroy American culture and this year Newaygo Elementary School in Newaygo, Michigan, has fond the unwanted meddling of an outside group of agitators coming into their community to attack a 70-year-old Christmas tradition.

The school has been displaying large wooden figures of the Three Wise Men as part of its nativity decorations since the 1940s and no one has worried overmuch about it. But this year the Michigan Association of Civil Rights Activists (MACRA) has demanded that the decades-old display be destroyed.

Naturally, the anti-American group claims that the Wise Men display is a state sponsorship of religion.

MACRA leader Mitch Kale told the media , “We’ve asked the school to remove what is, in essence, a nativity scene, from the top of the school, and from school property,” he said. “if this were on private property it wouldn’t be an issue.”

Kale also noted that he has been victorious in destroying the Christmas traditions of other Michigan cities, so he expects no one will fight him in Newaygo.

“We understand that the situation sometimes will make people upset,” Kale said. “But just like in Grand Haven, where their nativity scene has been up for 70 years, that’s now been gone for five years, the city council voted to remove it. And no one complains about it now.”

Still, despite the Christian-hating Kale’s self-assuredness, some in the community do want to fight the elimination of their local tradition.

Local resident Amy Postma told the media that MACRA can pound sand.

“It’s always been there and we love it,” Postma said, adding that objections to the display would also stop kids from visiting Santa Claus. “You can’t just take away something that we’ve always done. It’s not harming anyone, it’s not hurting anyone, so live and let live.”

Postma may have allies in the district superintendent’s office, too. Dr. Peggy Mathis posted a Facebook message telling MACRA that the school has no intention of taking down the Wise Men decorations.

“Newaygo Public Schools has a legitimate secular purpose for the display,” Mathis wrote. “We are both upholding the community’s tradition of celebrating a public holiday and attempting to point towards the importance of wisdom, knowledge, and open-mindedness.”

Mathis added:

“We are in no way seeking a primary effect of advancing or inhibiting religion,” Mathis added. “To my knowledge no one has been led to faith, or driven from faith, by this display that has spanned more than half a century.”

“To my knowledge there is no case law that prohibits the depiction of three non-Christian middle eastern men on camels that are seeking wisdom. Our display has a legitimate secular purpose,” she repeated. “It is my hope that we all will continue to stress the importance of seeking wisdom, knowledge, and open-mindedness during this entire holiday season.”

However, one might doubt the school’s resolve because not long after the post went up, Mathis deleted it.

I suppose we shall just have to wait and see where this goes.
