Colorado’s Radical Leftist Governor Jared Polis Makes it Harder for ICE to Apprehend Illegal Aliens

Colorado’s radical, leftist Governor, Jared Polis, is working to make it harder for Immigration authorities to apprehend illegal aliens and deport them.

Polis signed House Bill 1124 on Tuesday to bar local law enforcement officials from cooperating with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and requires police to ignore immigration detainers.

A detainer is an order filed with local officials to alert ICE when locals are ready to release an illegal alien. In accordance with the detainer, the illegal alien is supposed to be held until ICE picks the suspect up to be processed through immigration services and set up for deportation.

The law also prevents police from giving to ICE any of the personal information of the illegal aliens they take into custody.

The new law serves as a major setback for immigration operations in Colorado.

The law means that Colorado Democrats are requiring police to release dangerous criminal illegals right back into the state to commit more crimes instead of handing them over to ICE to be properly deported.

Naturally, activists who support the non-existent “rights” of illegals love Colorado’s dangerous new bill.

According to Daily Caller:

“Thank you to all of the people who helped to make this a reality and advocate for our immigrant community,” wrote Colorado Democratic state Rep. Adrienne Benavidez, the sponsor of the bill, in a Facebook post Tuesday. “Everyone should have the right to safely and confidently interact with law enforcement without fearing that they may be turned in to the federal agencies.”

“It is thrilling. We don’t have words to express what this feels [like],” stated Maria Mercedes Garcia of the Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition, according to The Denver Post. “All of our hard work was worth it.”

The Department of Immigration called Colorado’s move “disappointing.”

“By signing Colorado’s House Bill 1124, the state has codified a dangerous policy that deliberately obstructs our country’s lawful immigration system, protects serious criminal alien offenders, and undermines public safety,” ICE spokeswoman Alethea Smock said to The DCNF. “Rather than honoring immigration detainers issued by U. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and allowing law enforcement agencies to work together to keep criminal aliens behind bars, criminals will now be returned to the streets throughout Colorado. This is an irresponsible law that will undoubtedly have tragic future consequences at the expense of innocent citizens, lawful residents and visitors.”

Polis truly is making Colorado more dangerous for Coloradans.
