Liberals are furious at a Denver high school for allowing students to opt out of a rally organized to celebrate Black History Month.
Outrage was sparked when George Washington High School sent out an email telling parents that the school would host a Black Heritage Month assembly in March but that parents would be able to return a form to allow their child to be excused from attending, the Daily Mail reported.
“Students who opt-out of the assembly will be supervised in the library for the duration of the assembly and will return to their second-period class at the conclusion of the assembly to continue the school day,” the school’s letter home said.
Naturally, liberals went crazy over all this opting out business.
The opt out form was quickly branded raaaaaacist.
“This is the type of systemic racism that we are talking about that pervades DPS at its core. Since when do students get to “opt-out” of Black History Month assemblies?!?!? It’s the same with having teachers “opt-out” of racial bias training and having school leaders “opt-out” of best practices in discipline of its Black population,” activist and left-wing hater Hasira Ashemu posted on Facebook on Wednesday.
“Everyday this is the type of microaggressions that Black faculty, parents and students have to face in this racist system,” Ashemu added.
The high dudgeon grew loud enough that the school’s principle, Kristin Waters, decided to dump the opt out and instead make the rally mandatory.
“As we continue the important work of dismantling systemic racism, segregation and inequity in education, and specifically at George Washington High School, we appreciate our community holding us accountable,” Waters wrote.
“To expand the perspectives and learning opportunities for all of our students, it is counter-productive to promote the opportunity to opt-out of an assembly examining any part of history, culture or current events,” the principal added.
Well, there you go.
