In a new move, after a U.S. District judge has ruled that Obamacare is unconstitutional, now the U.S. Department of Justice has sided with the court on the ruling.
The move by the DOJ is part of an escalation to break down Obamacare by the Trump administration.
The DOJ has now officially sided with U.S. District Judge Reed O’Connor who ruled in December that the Affordable Care Act’s (also called Obamacare) individual mandate is illegal. If the forced mandate is unconstitutional, then the whole law is undermined.
According to The Hill, the DOJ is moving ahead to denigrate Obama’s healthcare law:
The DOJ said Monday that it agrees the decision should stand as the case works its way through the appeals process in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit.
“The Department of Justice has determined that the district court’s judgment should be affirmed,” the department said in a short letter to the appeals court.
The move by the DOJ will likely spark a new round of outrage from Democrats. The left-wing party has worked since the 1930s to get government-controlled healthcare, but now the law Obama celebrated has been gutted.
Of course, Democrat Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi slammed the DOJ’s move.
According to ABC News:
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., accused the Trump administration of “broadening its monstrous ambitions from destroying protections for pre-existing conditions to tearing down every last benefit and protection the Affordable Care Act provides.”
“The Trump administration decided not only to try to destroy protections for Americans living with pre-existing conditions, but to declare all-out war on the health care of the American people,” Pelosi said in a statement Monday night. “Democrats will continue to fight relentlessly to protect people with pre-existing conditions and to deliver lower health costs and prescription drug prices for every American.”
A group of 20 GOP-led states are still suing the federal government over the law.
