The city fathers of Duluth, Minnesota, have announced that they are cancelling the word “chief” in the city’s job titles because “chief” is racist.
On Monday, the Duluth City Council renamed several city job titles to avoid being raaaaacist.
No longer will the city have a chief financial officer, a chief administrative officer, or fire or police chiefs. You know, because calling someone a chief is, uh, raaaaacist.
According to Minnesota Public Radio:
On Monday, the City Council is scheduled to take up an amendment to the city charter to change the name of the city’s “chief administrative officer” to “city administrator.” The city’s “chief financial officer” would be renamed “finance director.”
“We are dropping the name ‘chief’ with intention and with purpose so we have more inclusive leadership, and less language that is rooted in hurt and offensive and intentional marginalization,” Duluth Mayor Emily Larson said in explaining the move.
Last month the city’s charter commission unanimously supported making the change. Larson also asked the city council for a unanimous vote backing the language change, “to more accurately reflect the city that we are, and the city that we are becoming.”
“For Duluth Mayor Emily Larson, the move makes sense,” MPR concluded, “given that there are many other suitable language substitutes without any negative connotations — ‘and to do that in a way that is more inclusive, more reflective, more accurate and more modern.'”
This is how stupid liberals are.
There is literally no one with a lick of sense saying to themselves, “you know, I’d like to work as Duluth’s chief financial officer, but that name is just sooo racist.”
This is just childish virtue signaling for no real, substantive reason.
