Tea Party Patriots has taken the action that the rest of Congress seems incapable of doing. They have filed formal ethics charges against Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV). The complaint was filed with the Senate Select Committee on Ethics.
According to The Daily Signal:
“The complaint, filed Monday with the Senate Select Committee on Ethics, alleges Reid has purposely tried to damage the names of Charles and David Koch, prominent conservative donors whom Reid has publicly criticized for running advertisements attacking Democrats. It also cites Reid’s partisan campaign activities, which allegedly violate Senate rules and federal law.”
“Tea Party Patriots filed a separate complaint against Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., for his alleged role in influencing the Internal Revenue Service to scrutinize conservative nonprofit groups.”
In part, the complaint reads:
“Tea Party Patriots, Inc., a national grassroots citizens organization whose members are American citizens and taxpayers committed to economic freedom, personal freedom and a debt free future for America, respectfully requests that the Senate Select Committee on Ethics (‘the Committee’) investigate whether Senator harry Reid (D-NV) violated Senate rules by unlawfully and unethically targeting private citizens, Charles and David Koch, whose philosophical and political views are in opposition to Senator Reid’s philosophy. We believe that Senator Reid is misusing his position as the Majority Leader of the Senate to attack these two private citizens, and has misused Senate staff or resources to engage in partisan campaign activity in violation of federal law and Senate rules.”
The timing of the ethics complaint was done so that it coincided with the meeting of the Senate Judiciary Committee where Reid and others were trying to push their proposal for a constitutional amendment to reduce political spending which was specifically targeting the Koch brothers.
Cleta Mitchell, an attorney for the Tea Party Patriots commented:
“We are tired of Reid, Democratic senators, and the White House bullying conservatives and conservative donors. They do not respect the First Amendment rights of citizens and we are sick of it, so we are fighting back.”
The Senate Select Committee on Ethics is required to start a preliminary inquiry into any ethics complaints they receive. However, the committee is chaired by Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) who is in the same liberal boat as Reid and is certainly going to do her best to minimize the complaint. Will she act properly and conduct a fair investigation into the allegations that face her comrade or will she do what all of the Obama’s minions do and slough it off and just make it go away without any justification or actions taken?
