Torch Lake Township is a small unincorporated community of about 1,200 people that lies near the northwestern tip of the Lower Michigan peninsula. The quaint community has been holding a 4th of July fireworks celebration along the shores of Torch Lake every year since the early 1900s.
Due to newly enforced regulations imposed by the ATF and Homeland Security, Torch Lake Township has announced that they will not be able to hold this year’s fireworks display. In a statement posted on their Facebook Page, Fabiano’s on the River wrote:
“The Business Association that handles the fireworks at Torch Lake on the 4th of July have announced that there will be NO fireworks this year. The Association no longer complys (sic) with the more restrictive ATF and Homeland Security rules. The Association is working to become compliant but due to government red tape cannot comply in time for 2014.”
Henry Ringlever, manager of Alden Marine & Sports commented:
”Fourth of July is an exciting time, I think a lot of people look forward to the fireworks. So I think it’ll just put a damper on the spirits, maybe later at night when people are expecting to hear the big booms and colorful lights.”
So what are the federal rules that are putting a kibosh on the century old fireworks display?
According to Josh Peal, a member of the South Torch Area Association, the new rules govern the sale of shells and fireworks say they cannot be stored ahead of time, or overnight. The fireworks must be transported the same day they are to be set off. The rules are not new, but since the Boston Marathon bombings, the feds are starting to be stricter in the enforcement of the regulations.
Once the town was informed that the feds were enforcing the regulations, they started the process to be compliant and bring the fireworks in the same day, but they say there is too much government red tape to prevent them from getting it done in time.
The Obama administration goes out of its way to squelch and kill any form of American patriotism because they know how dangerous it is to their socialist agenda. There is really no reason for the feds to enforce a rule they haven’t enforced in the past, except to exert their dictatorial anti-American power on others.
Torch Lake is the only area I’ve heard of so far that has had to cancel their fireworks displays for the 4th of July. It makes you wonder why? Could it have anything to do with Torch Lake’s most infamous resident, filmmaker Michael Moore and his 10,000 square foot lakeside home?
