First lady Melania Trump and Vice President Pence’s wife joined together to help pack some holiday comfort packs for American troops overseas ahead of the Thanksgiving/Christmas season.
The wives of America’s top two elected officials appeared at the American Red Cross’ Washington, D.C., headquarters on Wednesday to lend a hand for our troops.
Mrs. Trump and Mrs. Pence were joined by the spouses of a dozen cabinet secretaries, too, according to wire service UPI.
“While most Americans are able to enjoy Thanksgiving and Christmas with their families, we have thousands of American troops deployed overseas separated from their loved ones,” Mrs. Trump said during the event. “It is important as Americans to do all we can to support our troops and their nation’s freedoms.”
“I encourage people everywhere to participate in an act of service this holiday season and give back to our military, who protect our nation’s freedoms. One of the greatest privileges I have as first lady is traveling across our great nation and around the world, meeting troops and their families,” Melania added.
The comfort kits contain snacks, personal hygiene products, and games for the enjoyment of the troops.
The two wives also included notes to the soldiers wishing them a great Christmas.
“Along with the spouses of the President’s Cabinet and those of our courageous men and women in uniform, we packed this kit to express our gratitude for the innumerable sacrifices you have made in defense of our freedom,” the note reportedly reads “We pray that during this Christmas season the love, respect and gratitude of our nation uplifts and protects you. May God continue to watch over you and all our nation’s service members.”
This is the second year the two participated in the kit packing process. The pair were also seen last year helping to pack the kits.
