The IG report about the FBI’s Hillary investigation absolutely skewered the senior players of the FBI. While the Democrats and Media (I guess those terms are redundant). While the Democrats and the Mainstream Media are focusing on the most damaging (or mitigating) parts of the almost 600-page report, we will take a different approach and focus on the five most ironic parts of the investigation\
1) While Comey was investigating Hillary Clinton for using her personal email to conduct State Department business, “Comey used a personal email account (a Gmail account) to conduct FBI business.” (pg. 427) So did the FBI lovers and Trump haters Peter Strzok and Lisa Page (xii).
2)Comey was one of the few people in the world that didn’t know that Huma Abedin was married to Anthony Weiner.
“We asked Comey to explain why this initial information about the Weiner laptop did not “index” with him given that Abedin was closely connected to Clinton(…) Comey stated, “I don’t know that I knew that [Weiner] was married to Huma Abedin at the time.” (pg. 281)
3) For those who believe that the reopening of the Hillary Clinton Email investigation two weeks before the election helped Trump win–guess what? Don’t blame it on Comey, blame it on Peter Strzok and Lisa Page the FBI lovers and the ultimate Trump haters.
The top people at the FBI including Strzok, who was running both the Hillary email and Trump Russia investigations, were told about the Hillary State Department emails residing on Weiner’s laptop at the of September (pg. 330). But the email investigation wasn’t reopened until three weeks later— two weeks before the election.
According to the IG report, a reason for the delay was that Strzok prioritized the Russia investigation over finishing the Hillary emails. Why? Perhaps he was trying to delay the examination of Hillary’s emails till after the election. The IG believes he was hindering the investigation to help Hillary,
“Under these circumstances, we did not have confidence that Strzok’s decision to prioritize the Russia investigation over following up on the Midyear-related investigative lead discovered on the Weiner laptop was free from bias [the code name for the Hillary email investigation was called Mid-year] (pg. 329).
Strzok’s plan to slow-walk the investigation would have worked if Comey hadn’t changed his mind and decided he had to inform Congress and get a search warrant for the computer. The change in tactics
“resulted not from the discovery of dramatic new information about the Weiner laptop, but rather as a result of inquiries from the Weiner case agent and prosecutors from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for SDNY on October 21. (pg.330) “
That spurred Comey to act because he wanted to protect his own backside. According to the IG, his concern was
“that failing to send the letter would harm the FBI and his ability to lead it, and his view that candidate Clinton was going to win the presidency and that she would be perceived to be an illegitimate president if the public first learned of the information after the election.”
Why is this ironic? If one believes that the revelation of the second investigation of Hillary’s emails cost her the election (I don’t, but many Democrats do) than it was Strzok’s delay that did her in. After all, if they investigated it at the end of Sept. early Oct. and the word got out, Clinton would have had five weeks to fight the charge and change the subject in the eyes of the voters instead of only two. In other words, biggest Trump hater in the FBI may have made him president…
