Florida Community College Drops Pledge of Allegiance for ‘Structured Dissent of Authority’

There are still some people who argue with me about how liberal and anti-American America’s schools have become. They claim that they are still teaching the core values that America was founded on and that they are indeed patriotic.

For those naysayers, I direct you to Hillsborough Community College in Hillsborough County, Florida. The school system was founded in 2008 and has grown to six campuses throughout the county – Bandon, Dale Mabry, Plant City, Ybor City, MacDill AFB and Ruskin on the south shore of Tampa Bay. They refer to themselves as The Community College of Tampa Bay, serving around 43,000 students.

Recently, the Institutional Advisory Council, composed of faculty, staff and students from all six campuses met and voted to do away with the Pledge of Allegiance at their meetings. According to the minutes from the meeting:

“A heated discussion ensued between the IAC about the Pledge of Allegiance and its appropriateness in an institution of higher learning which fosters academic freedom and structured dissent against authority. Some members expressed views that the Pledge made some people uncomfortable and that it violated their beliefs in academic freedom and the goals of the IAC.”

First off, if the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America makes someone feel uncomfortable then I would say there is nothing stopping them from leaving America and going to a country where they would feel more comfortable. Secondly, it’s hypocritical to say they foster academic freedom when the IAC sets the policies for the advisory boards at each of the six campuses. If one of those advisory boards wants to open with the Pledge of Allegiance, that’s too bad because they no longer have the academic freedom to do so.

Lastly is the issue of ‘structured dissent against authority.’ One has to ask just what the schools are teaching their 43,000 students as it sounds like they are teaching them to rebel and defy all authority. This is known as anarchy and can lead to the total destruction of any country and society.

The bottom line is that this community college system is NOT teaching any values or ethics that reflect on those that made our nation great. They are demonstrating that anything patriotic is uncomfortable and should be done away with. They forget how many Americans have died or sacrificed limbs, eyes, etc. to defend America, the American flag and the right to recite the Pledge of Allegiance. I challenge them to bring in veterans from the various wars and ask them about the Pledge, flag or structured dissent of authority. If they did, the veterans would shame them and ask them if they ever did anything to protect their freedoms.

Sadly, this is a growing trend in public schools, community colleges, colleges and universities throughout the nation. They are being run by men and women who have never served in the military or done anything to help protect the freedoms they are abusing. In fact, our nation is being run by men and women who have never served in the military either and have no concept what it means to be an American. All you need to do is just look at the White House and most of Congress.
