Gay Play To Hit Stage At California Public High School

El Camino Real Charter High School in Woodland Hills, California was established as an open campus type high school, emulating the same campus environment of a small college.  In 2011, school officials voted to make El Camino Real and charter as well as public high school.  This allows them to accept private donations and allows them to operate under different rules, statutes and guidelines as other public schools.

Evidently those more liberal regulations are being taken full advantage of as the school’s drama club is preparing to perform 8, which is being billed as a dramatic reading and not a play.

8 was written by Dustin Lance Black, the Academy Award winning gay screen writer of Milk.  Black is a gay rights advocate whose award winning screenplay was about the life of Harvey Milk, the first openly gay person to win a political election in California.  Milk was elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors.

Black is also a founding board member of the American Foundation for Equal Rights which is a gay activist group that is not about equal rights but privileged rights.  And it just so happens that the drama club and El Camino Real have announced that donations received for their play, will go to Black’s organization.

The dramatic reading of 8 is about the controversial Proposition 8 trial that took place in California.  Originally called the California Marriage Protection Act was a constitutional amendment that went before the general public in the 2008 elections that defined marriage as between one man and one woman.  Prop 8 was passed by the majority of the people, but instantly challenged by gay rights activists.

In 2010, U.S. District Judge Vaughn R. Walker ruled that Prop 8 was unconstitutional because it violated the Due Process and Equal Protection sections of the U.S. Constitution.  The case then moved on to the most liberal court in the United States, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.  The 9th Circuit continued the stay of enforcement that Walker had issued until they could make their final ruling.  In February of this year, to no surprise, the liberal court agreed to uphold Walker’s ruling and overturn Prop 8.  The proponents of Prop 8 have filed an appeal with the U.S. Supreme Court.

Just on a side note, it really galls me when the majority of the people vote for something and then a three person panel of judges overturns their votes.  America is no longer the land of ‘We the people’ but the land of ‘We the judges.’

Black’s dramatic reading of 8 is to include some actual transcripts from the court proceedings to overturn the constitutional amendment.  It is a very one-sided and biased play that has the single purpose of promoting homosexuality and denigrating traditional marriage of one man with one woman.

According to Ron Prentice, CEO of California Family Council, who has read parts of the play, said:

“I’ve read bits and pieces of the play.  It’s essentially a reading that comes from some of the testimony during the federal district court trial, yet `8′ is by no means an unbiased production. It needs to pick and choose the material that it uses, and does so with a very pro-gay marriage indoctrination slant.”

The production apparently has the full support of the school’s administration and reports that they have only had one complaint so far.  I wonder what would happen if a similar production was performed at another public high school that was equally biased and touted the pro-Prop 8 side supporting traditional marriage.  Most likely it would be branded as hate language and ruled illegal and unconstitutional to perform.  This is the sad state of reality in our schools and every other aspect of American life.
