In case the point wasn’t already made, the RINOs in control of the GOP have snatched victory in November’s elections from conservative voters and handed it to the Democratic Party.
While the House and Senate leaders all have “GOP” after their names, the reality is that Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and President Obama are just as in charge as ever.
Last month’s “Cromnibus” bill tossed away the best tool for stopping Obama’s executive amnesty and his general lawlessness: the power of the purse. By fully funding the government, including the amnesty and Obamacare, Speaker John Boehner, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and the rest of them castrated the Republican Party and handed the result to the Democrats on a silver platter.
Not convinced yet that the GOP leadership means to kill conservatism? Well, here’s the next step.
Today is the anniversary of the monstrous Roe v. Wade decision. More than 50 million dead children later, conservatives are marching in Washington at the annual March for Life today.
While some members of the GOP leadership will make symbolic appearances at the march, the reality is that the RINOs, once again, are surrendering to liberal opinions and leaving conservatives twisting in the wind.
A bill that would make abortions after the fifth month of pregnancy illegal and add other common sense restrictions on the slaughter of children is being dropped due to opposition from Rep. Renee Ellmers and a group of RINO congresswomen who critics say are being influenced by abortion industry lobbyists.
Ellmers et al. claim that the legislation might hurt GOP support among women and “millennials.”
The only women who would think badly of the GOP for passing such legislation, though, already don’t vote for the GOP. Women who think killing babies somehow secures their personal rights don’t want to vote Democrat Lite, they want the real, bloodstained thing.
Millennials may have turned out for Obama the first time, but for the most part they are just apathetic and aren’t going to be swinging many elections.
So the excuses for abandoning the principle of protecting human life are just that, excuses.
The proposed legislation isn’t outlandish. In fact it’s very liberal, in the classic sense, when compared with history.
America, Europe and much of Western civilization had for hundreds of years restricted abortion after “the quickening,” the moment when a baby’s first movements are felt, usually around the third month.
Philosophers and legislators long considered that the point when it could first be known medically that there was a living child inside the mother’s womb. And from that instant, the law protected that young life.
That was the standard when America was formed. Setting the checkpoint arbitrarily at five months allows women considerably more leeway, but it’s still a vast improvement over the Democrats’ “whatever” standard, which never took the child’s rights into account at all.
RINOs are fine with abandoning moral principles, even the principles of those who put them in office, because really they’re just in Congress to enjoy the power. And that means millions more children will die.
Conservative voters might save themselves some disappointment if they just abandon the idea that they have any representation in Washington.
