Wisconsin Representative Sean Duffy announced on Monday that he is resigning from Congress claiming fears over the health of his baby.
Duffy said that doctors have told him that his unborn baby — due in October — will be born with a heart condition and other health issues, the Washington Examiner reported.
“Recently, we’ve learned that our baby … will need even more love, time, and attention due to complications, including a heart condition,” Duffy said via Facebook. “With much prayer, I have decided that this is the right time for me to take a break from public service in order to be the support my wife, baby and family need right now.”
The Wisconsin Republican said that September 23 would be his last day in Congress.
The congressman and his wife, Fox News reporter Rachel Campos-Duffy, have been married since 1999 and have eight children.
Years ago, Rachel Campos-Duffy claimed that her marriage to Sean was “love at first sight.”
“We met on a train and the first moment we saw each other was on television. We’ve been together ever since. It’s kind of cool,” she said of meeting Sean on the set of Real World/Road Rules Challenge.
Duffy has been a solid conservative since first going to Congress in 2011. He served as a member of the Financial Services Committee, the Foreign Affairs Committee, and the Budget & Joint Economic Committee.
He has also been an outspoken pro-life supporter.
Duffy posted a long Facebook piece about his situation.
