In France, they get it now.
The French government has shut the borders and declared a state of emergency. Protesters have taken to the streets, drowning out calls for “unity” with calls for removal of all Islamists from the country.
French law enforcement is searching for anyone connected with the Paris massacre or who might be thinking about followup attacks. They aren’t looking in churches, they aren’t searching babies in diapers or busting in doors at bingo parlors. They’re going right to the source: mosques, Muslim schools, Muslim homes and anywhere else Islamists might hide.
French politician Marine Le Pen and her Front National Party have called for an immediate halt to immigration into the country, pointing out that at least one of the participants in last week’s massacre sneaked across European borders under cover of the refugee tide. Similar demands have been raised in Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands.
Even while liberal media outlets decry the “rise of the far Right,” the average French citizen now seems to understand that the only way France survives this current invasion is by fighting back and attacking ISIS where it lives in Iraq and Syria, and wherever its cockroach spawn have scurried for cover inside French borders.
In the U.S., Republican members of Congress are pushing to restrict funding for the planned importing of thousands of Syrian so-called refugees drawn from the same population as those that have been causing so many problems inside Europe. More than 20 state governors have already refused to take in any of the refugees and put their citizens at risk.
Then there’s the White House, its delusional occupant in chief and his lackeys.
President Obama, speaking in Turkey, Europe’s most solidly Muslim country, said of calls to reject Muslim refugees, “That’s shameful. That’s not American. That’s not who we are. … We don’t have religious tests to our compassion. We do not close our hearts to these victims of such violence and somehow start equating the issue of refugees with the issue of terrorism.”
Glossing over the fact that most of that violence Obama thinks the “refugees” are fleeing has been encouraged for years by his Administration, Obama’s admonition to let blind “compassion” lead us to throw open the door to an obvious and clear danger is unbelievably reckless. Verging on traitorous was Monday’s announcement that Obama has released five detainees from Guantanamo, including a close associate of Osama bin Laden’s.
The European and American Left are working hard to pretend that its moral, mental and political failures played no role in what happened in Paris, as confused liberals from the president to Britain’s homeland secretary on down to Internet trolls are repeating the lie about Islam being a religion of peace in hopes that it will stick.
Daily Show host Trevor Noah ranted, “It’s not the religion. Islam means peace. I’m not even Muslim, but I’m not even comfortable with this. Islam means peace. It’s so easy now to label it as a terrorist religion.”
We haven’t all been attacked by sharks, either, so sharks must be lovable creatures who pose no danger to swimmers by Noah’s logic.
The Left is even desperate enough that they are willing to risk burning their partisan “fact check” racket in order to rescue President Obama from himself. The laughably named PolitiFact rated Obama’s equally laughable claim that ISIS/ISIL is contained as “True.” Despite the facts of Paris, White House spokesmonkeys were sticking to that story as well.
But even Sen. Dianne Feinstein isn’t buying that.
Feinstein, who almost alone among Democrats occasionally acknowledges reality, said, “I’ve never been more concerned. I read the intelligence faithfully. ISIL is not contained. ISIL is expanding.”
She also criticized Obama’s tepid pretense at a military response to ISIS, saying, “We certainly need more than 50 specials ops and we need the ability to really make a difference on the ground. Candidly, I don’t think bombing runs alone, we have done about 8,000 now, can really make a difference. So we’re going to have to look at some new themes and I think we will have to listen very carefully to our military people and ask for the kind of precise military strategy and tactics that might be able to really contain ISIL and defeat it.”
In other words, we’re going to have to go to war.
And no, it’s not Bush’s fault, though the Left will try to blame him as always. It’s the fault of Obama pulling us out of a country we had brought to a point where it had a real shot at becoming a self-sustaining, peaceful democracy.
If only we had stayed there and protected the Iraqi people in the first place, ISIS would never have become the world-threatening force it is now.
That would have been real American compassion.
