What’s going to happen when eager newbies, who were voted into office to bring fundamental change to Washington, alter the political process, and dilute the Establishment Republican stranglehold on policy issues get seduced by GOP leaders who have shown themselves to be corrupt over and over again.
Consider this latest example:
“In a lengthy interview on Friday afternoon, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) exposed how House Speaker John Boehner, Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Majority Whip Steve Scalise strengthened President Barack Obama’s executive amnesty with procedural trickery former Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Obamacare architect Jonathan Gruber would envy—and they did it all in the name of pushing a bill that they told Republicans would block Obama’s executive amnesty.”
It’s not that the Democrats were scammed. Boehner and Co. scammed the members of their own party to get them to vote for a bill that props up Obama so they won’t have to actually fight for political territory.
“Gohmert said most members had no idea what they were actually voting for when 219 members—216 of which were Republicans—approved a measure, H.R. 5759, first put forward by Rep. Ted Yoho (R-FL), but subsequently dramatically altered by leadership officials in the Rules Committee process.”
What is it that Boehner and his political saboteurs didn’t understand about the overwhelming GOP victory that was handed to the Republican leadership in November and the latest nail in the coffin to Democrat ascendency with the defeat of Mary Landrieu in Saturday’s Senate runoff in Louisiana giving the Party a 54-seat majority?
Articles on the election outcome used the word “crushed.”
The cross came because conservatives went to the polls and voted for change.
We’re back to political responsibility. It’s getting to the point that every bill that’s brought up for a vote must be read aloud with every member in attendance before a bill can be voted on. And if not that, then every member of Congress should be made to sign a notarized statement that he or she has read every word of the bill before voting on it. Failure to read a bill after signing the statement would result in charges of perjury.
The men and women who signed a non-read bill won’t be able to pull a Nancy Pelosi when election time rolls around in 2016. They won’t be able to say, “Well, we needed to pass it so we would know what’s in it.
Boehner has put a number of representatives in political jeopardy come November 2016:
“What’s more is that a series of interviews and recent developments indicate that Boehner’s gambit here is placing several of his top lieutenants—including at least two committee chairmen — at political risk of serious primary challenges just a few months after newly elected Rep. Dave Brat (R-VA) beat now former House Majority Leader Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA) in a Republican primary.”
These guys have nobody to blame but themselves for going along with establishment corruption in order to get along with establishment leadership to gain the perks of elected office.
Let’s hope and pray that this next batch of congressmen and congresswomen won’t succumb to the temptation.Don't forget to Like Godfather Politics on Facebook and Twitter, and visit our friends at RepublicanLegion.com.
