The first day of the new Democrat-controlled congress was only minutes old when a Democrat moved to file impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump.
If this does not presage the hate, strife, and darkness that the Democrats intend to unleash this year, what does?
Representative Brad Sherman (D-CA) is set to introduce articles of impeachment against the president as the new session of Congress convenes.
What are the charges, you ask?
Sherman is claiming that when Trump fired the crooked, biased James Comey as FBI chief the president committed “high crimes and misdemeanors.”
Uh, no. A president may fire an FBI chief at any time for any reason. There is not a thing illegal about it. But let’s not let truth and acts get in the way of the Democrats’ agenda.
This is not the first time Sherman filed this bit of nonsense. He tried the same trick in 2017, but it went nowhere.
“There is no reason it shouldn’t be before the Congress,” Sherman said of his charges according to Roll Call. “Every day, Donald Trump shows that leaving the White House would be good for our country.”
It is hard to tell how serious Sherman’s filing is, though. Various Democrats have tried to tamp down too much talk of impeachment.
Recently, newly emplaced Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi insisted that politics should “play no role” in any serious move to impeach Trump.
“We shouldn’t be impeaching for a political reason, and we shouldn’t avoid impeachment for a political reason,” Pelosi said during an interview on NBC.
And Democrat Jerrold Nadler also warned that impeachment may not be something the bulk of American voters want.
Still, this just shows how contentious the Democrats plan to be. This year is going to be an absolute circus in the House.
