As usual, the Left is blaming all criticism of President Obama on racism. It’s not his policies that anger conservatives, it’s his race. There are too many examples to cite. Here a a few of the most recent ones.
“HBO host Bill Maher suggested that the content that appears on the Drudge Report obviously demonstrates ‘racism in America.’” His evidence? Drudge links to stories about black notables. Drudge doesn’t write the stories. He just links to them. It seems to me, if the logic is followed, that the racists are the ones who reported the stories. Let’s take the Marion Barry story that appeared in the Washington Examiner and the ultra-liberal Huffington Post. Here’s what Barry said:
“We got to do something about these Asians coming in and opening up businesses and dirty shops. They ought to go. I’m going to say that right now. But we need African-American businesspeople to be able to take their places, too.”
Politico reporter Joe Williams claimed that racism was behind Neil Munro’s questioning of President Obama at the White House during his latest unconstitutional immigration Executive Order. Williams said that “it’s very, very difficult to place race outside of this context. . . . [I]t’s hard to divorce that because this president doesn’t look like the others.”
Former ABC White House correspondent Sam Donaldson told the Huffington Post that many conservatives “believe this president ought not to be there – they oppose him not for his polices and political view but for who he is, an African American! These people and perhaps even certain news organizations (certainly the right wing talkers like Limbaugh) encourage disrespect for this president.”
Such short memories.
Ronald Reagan, the elder George Bush, and George Bush the younger were savaged in the press and by liberal talkers as a matter of course. Purist liberals would say that it was because of their policies and nothing else. George W. Bush is still savaged today. Obama can’t stop blaming him, and the liberal folks at HBO used his head as a prop in a beheading scene in Episode 10 from the first season of HBO’s fantasy series Game of Thrones. It’s all about policy. Yea, right.
There’s a website devoted to “Bush = Hitler” allusions. In addition to the articles, there are dozens and dozens of “Bush = Hitler” images.
The latest liberal attack on conservatives comes from Waiting to Exhale author Terry McMillan, who is black. Any opposition to her liberal agenda must be racially inspired. What else could it be? “[W]hat the Republicans have made crystal clear,” McMillan wrote, “is how racists [sic] they are & how many people in this country are too. And not hiding it.”
To add insult to injury in her Twitter rant, she wrote that “Republicans are behaving just like Hitler did.” Stella might have gotten her groove back,1 but she didn’t get in high school where she should have learned that Hitler was a Socialist. Nazi stands for “National Socialism.”
There’s no race card to pull when a candidate is white, so it can only be about policies and political views. And what if a black person objects to the policies of President Obama? He’s sold out. He’s an Oreo — black on the outside but white on the inside — or an Uncle Tom. These types of turncoat blacks are only being used by the white establishment. Racism is the liberal narrative. They don’t have anything else to go on.
Liberals can hide behind the charges of racism, sexism, and “homophobia” and not have to deal with policies as policies. Those who honestly oppose a policy on its merits or the lack thereof find themselves on the defensive having to argue that they are not racists. The policy gets lost in the name calling. And that’s the reason for the relentless ad hominem attacks. Keep your opponent off balance so the public never gets to hear how ridiculous leftism really is. Appeal to people’s emotions and stereotypes. That’s how liberals win elections, that and buying votes with our money and the money of future generations.
