Throughout President Trump’s first term, he has been besieged by the concept of “fake news”.
While the left tends to downplay the President’s rhetoric on the subject, they do so at their own peril. In denying that such a problem exists, or by insinuating that the Commander in Chief has his version of the scourge backward, the democrats are opening themselves up for a major reckoning in the shadow of the 2020 election.
You see, “fake news” need not discriminate, and the mainstream media’s efforts to become the deciders of the matter is a dangerous precedent to set in a nation founded on the idea of free speech.

President Trump has waged war against those who peddle these fabrications, and against those who promote this peddling through social media and non-inclusive web censorship.
Being the businessman that he is, Trump understands that sometimes, instead of attacking a problem head-on, you have to follow the money.
Just arrived in the United Kingdom. The only problem is that @CNN is the primary source of news available from the U.S. After watching it for a short while, I turned it off. All negative & so much Fake News, very bad for U.S. Big ratings drop. Why doesn’t owner @ATT do something?

I believe that if people stoped using or subscribing to @ATT, they would be forced to make big changes at @CNN, which is dying in the ratings anyway. It is so unfair with such bad, Fake News! Why wouldn’t they act. When the World watches @CNN, it gets a false picture of USA. Sad!

The antagonizing tweets came during the President’s trip to London.
Trump had earlier met with AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson in private at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue to discuss what options are available for tackling the issue of fake and misleading news stories within the mainstream media.
It is unclear how receptive AT&T was to the President’s suggestions.
