A former city employee in Indianapolis claims that he was fired because he wore a Donald Trump campaign hat to work in a lawsuit filed this week.
Michael J. Dale, a former supervisor in the Indianapolis Department of Public Works, says that he was fired after wearing the hat to work in April. Dale filed a lawsuit for wrongful termination saying the city fired him because he is white, and because of his age and for engaging in free speech, according to the Indianapolis Star.
In 2016, Dale wore a “Make America Great Again” hat to work and spoke with several colleagues about his support for then-candidate Trump, according to the complaint. Dale claims that some time later a representative of a local union spoke about Dale being a Trump supporter during a staff meeting.
In April 2018, Dale was terminated for “lack of leadership,” according to the complaint.
The Office of Corporation Counsel, which represents the city, did not respond to a request for comment. Typically, it does not discuss pending litigation.
Dale also says that he was treated badly because of his age.
“Defendants have treated significantly younger, non-Caucasian employees and employees who did not engage in protected speech … more favorably in discipline than it has treated Dale,” the lawsuit alleges.
The New York Post notes that several people have been fired because of MAGA hats.
Earlier this month, a local TV reporter in southern Minnesota was fired when he was photographed wearing the cap at a Trump rally he was covering, while Kanye West was bombarded with boos and criticism for donning the hat during his appearance on “Saturday Night Live” in September.
In August, a Texas man was charged with theft of person after being caught on video stealing a teen’s “Make America Great Again Hat,” criticizing his support for Trump and throwing a drink in the youngster’s face.
But what this really shows is the intolerance of the left. After all, if they are going to be this triggered by a simple hat, it shows how mentally unhinged the left really is.
