Inspector General to Investigate Planned Parenthood

Dare we hope that there is someone honest left in government?

The Health and Human Services inspector general has announced that he will be investigating Planned Parenthood’s handling of human tissue and whether the organization is in compliance with the law.

While some Republicans in D.C. have been pushing to defund the abortion industry leader and a congressional investigation has been plowing along slowly, the Powers That Be have attempted to stonewall any legal ramifications for their favorite child-killing donor after those videos were released earlier this year.

In July, HHS Secretary Sylvia Burwell testified that she had not viewed any of the videos and that Congress could go pound sand because HHS wasn’t going to do anything about Planned Parenthood, despite being asked to do so in a letter from 50 senators.

According to the Government Accountability Office, HHS gave Planned Parenthood more than $67.2 million between 2010 and 2012, $62.8 million of which came directly from the HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius’ office.

Fortunately, the Inspector General’s Office is politically independent. After a request from Sen. Rand Paul in October, Inspector General Daniel R. Levinson has opened an investigation.

In a letter to Paul, Levinson wrote: “We will interview HHS and National Institutes of Health (NIH) officials, as the majority of HHS funding for human fetal tissue research is awarded through NIH. This approach will also focus on gathering relevant documentation related to policies and procedures for monitoring fetal tissue research activities. Our goal is to obtain information related to fetal tissue research grants, NIH’s monitoring procedures over third-party certifications and those related to the Department’s internal fetal tissue research, and any known violations of Federal requirements.”

In a statement released to the press, Paul wrote: “I am encouraged to see the Inspector General take action to investigate Planned Parenthood’s unconscionable practices. Planned Parenthood selling body parts of the unborn demonstrates that the organization deserves not one penny more of our taxpayer dollars, and I am confident this investigation will give further proof of that.”

So keep your fingers crossed that justice may finally be done.

And Merry Christmas, Planned Parenthood. Enjoy your new headache. You’ve earned it.
