Homeland Security chief Janet Napolitano shocked the mainstream media on Friday by announcing her resignation.
In September, she’ll go inflict her special brand of myopic dullardry on the University of California system as its new president, it was announced.
As head of Homeland Security, Napolitano has been ignorant, neglectful of her duties, willfully abusive of citizens’ rights, paranoid and lacking in any real leadership skills.
In other words, to Democrats she’s been highly successful, which is why they’re rewarding her with the high-paying, cushy post at the University of California.
Under Napolitano’s guidance, the Homeland Security Department was sued by its own Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents for not enforcing immigration laws.
Agents say that Napolitano, citing one of President Obama’s executive end-runs around Congress, created a culture in which it was impossible to arrest or prosecute illegal immigrants because of the misuse of “prosecutorial discretion” and a Dream Act-style policy that let young immigrants off the hook for breaking the law.
Republican Sen. Jeff Sessions said in a statement, “Secretary Napolitano’s tenure at the Department of Homeland Security was defined by a consistent disrespect for the rule of law.”
Some of her staff criticized her management style as “out of sight, out of mind,” and some of her public statements showed how out of touch she was, such as when she said “the system worked” after a terrorist nearly succeeded in setting off a bomb on a Detroit-bound flight in 2009.
She also infamously referred to the attempted bombing of Times Square as a “one-off.”
She was also the one who dubbed global terrorist incidents as “man-caused disasters.”
While Napolitano has been virtually blind to the threat of Islamic terrorism, under her guidance, the Department of Homeland Security has been the spearhead of the Obama Administration’s propaganda efforts to paint Bible-believing Christians, military veterans and other conservatives as potential enemies of the state.
The DHS has issued several reports along that vein, including one in 2009 that cited an unsubstantiated “resurgence in rightwing extremist recruitment and radicalizations activity” that the report blamed on the election of a black president.
Anyone who opposes abortion, illegal immigration or Islamism — in short, anyone who opposes Obama’s policies — is a potential terrorist in Napolitano’s view, which is echoed by the worst of the left-wing media and blogs.
The TSA with its refusal to profile potential terrorists and preference for raping travelers at airports also falls under her authority. She has also been responsible for the federal response to natural disasters such as Hurricane Sandy, which has been a far bigger humanitarian boondoggle than Hurricane Katrina.
President Obama on Friday praised Napolitano’s service.
And that should tell you everything you need to know.
