House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) has spent years growing and nurturing an antagonistic relationship with GOP voters. Over the last few years in particular, Boehner has made a habit of poking the conservative grassroots in the eye by constantly turning his back on them to deal with liberal Democrats. Now, he’s officially in his final stretch as a Representative from Ohio, and he’s decided to make the most of his time by continuing to take jabs at the conservative base.
On Sunday he was a guest on CBS’ Face the Nation where he mocked Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) and other conservatives who Boehner called “false prohphets.”
“The Bible says beware of false prophets. And there are people out there spreading noise about how much can get done,” Boehner said.
He specifically referenced promises by his GOP colleagues in 2013 that they would be able to get rid of Obamacare through the process of funding the government – a tactic which ultimately led to the 16-day government shutdown that fall.
“This plan never had a chance. But over the course of the August recess in 2013 and the course of September, a lot of my Republican colleagues who knew it was a fool’s errand, they were getting a lot of pressure at home to do this. And so we got groups here in town, members, the House and Senate here in town who whipped people into a frenzy believing they could accomplish things that they know, they know are never going to happen,” he said.
Asked whether those “false prophets” include Ted Cruz, the presidential candidate and Texas senator who helped encourage the promises to end Obamacare in 2013, Boehner was a little coyer.
“You can pick a lot of names out, I’ll let you chose them,” he told Dickerson. But then he referred him to comments he made at an August fundraiser, where he reportedly called Cruz a “jackass.”
Here’s the thing. What Boehner fails to realize is that the problem is not that change is coming “too slowly” for we conservatives, it’s that the ONLY change happening in America right now is movement to the LEFT!
For years the GOP establishment goaded us into supporting them by promising that as soon as we won back the majority in Congress they would begin chipping away at the Obama legacy. Well, we did it. We won them the House and then we gave them the Senate… and now they tell us before any “real” change can happen we need to hand them the White House as well! It’s a con game. Boehner and his GOP establishment lackeys are going for our throats – “Support us” they say, “or we’ll never do anything conservative again… EVER.”
Well, Mr. Boehner, you can grouse, complain, chide and warn all you want – there are many of us no longer buying the BS that you and your cronies are spewing. Sure, you may scare a few conservatives into continuing to throw their votes in your direction, but if you want us all to support you, then we need you to reciprocate by supporting us.
I believe in Latin we’d say Quid pro Quo. If you and the establishment begin giving us the “Quid,” we conservatives will be happy to return the favor by handing over the “Quo.”
