Secretary of State John Kerry, rather than addressing real issues of international cooperation and security, is touring Asia aboard his carbon dioxide-spewing jet in order to spread the word about the danger of climate change.
Liberals have a way of twisting and redefining words to sell their insane politics, and Kerry’s speech to a bunch of Indonesian students was full of the usual Left-wing hyperbole, backed up not by any science but by an emotional plea to not trust the other guys, meaning anybody who adheres to principles of logic, the scientific method and sound reasoning to come to the conclusion that the climate change scare is all about making guys like Kerry even richer.
“We should not allow a tiny minority of shoddy scientists and science and extreme ideologues to compete with scientific facts,” Kerry said, and he’s right. But unfortunately, we’ve already allowed it and done so for so long that facts cannot be heard above the din of environmental alarmists. Perhaps that’s not exactly what he meant: “The science is unequivocal, and those who refuse to believe it are simply burying their heads in the sand. We don’t have time for a meeting anywhere of the Flat Earth Society,” which is precisely what Kerry and his environmental cronies are qualified to be in charge of.
Let’s apply some perspective here. The people who are claiming they can control the Earth’s climate with tools like a carbon tax, carbon exchange and reduction of our capacity for producing the energy needed by the previously leading industrial society on the planet are the same people who cannot produce a working website, which is considerably simpler than any of the complexities involved in understanding the natural world.
They want to control the climate, meaning all the world’s weather, and they can’t balance a budget.
The same people who ask us to trust them and believe they are telling the truth about climate change have yet to come clean about Benghazi, Fast and Furious, IRS targeting of conservatives, NSA spying and other scandals.
The people who want us to believe they have our best interests at heart are the same people who are perverting our Constitution, forcing us to buy crappy insurance we don’t want, feeding schoolchildren garbage for their stomachs and propaganda for their brains, weakening our military, antagonizing ally nations, coddling enemy nations, employing terrorists as a point of foreign policy, and wasting our money on sending people like Kerry overseas to blather about global warming.
There’s been no significant warming for 15 years by most reputable measures. But the game being played now is to say that the “long-term” warming trend is continuing, but global warming is “on pause.” Government weather-watching agencies have to talk out of both sides of their mouths, torn no doubt between loyalty to the global warming cause and some remaining shreds of devotion to scientifically verified facts.
For example, on January 21, NASA issued a press release claiming 2013 as tied with 2009 and 2006 for the seventh warmest year on record since 1880, “continuing a long-term trend of rising global temperatures.” The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says 2013 was the fourth warmest year on record.
Yet, the very next day, NASA and the NOAA held a joint press conference in which scientists admitted the “pause” in global warming that has been going on for more than a decade continues.
“In summary they both show that the ‘pause’ in global surface temperature that began in 1997, according to some estimates, continues,” wrote David Whitehouse, who holds a doctorate in astrophysics and was the BBC’s science editor, after the press conference. “Statistically speaking there has been no trend in global temperatures over this period. …”
“Given that the (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) estimates that the average decadal increase in global surface temperature is 0.2 (degrees Celsius), the world is now 0.3 (degrees Celsius) cooler than it should have been,” Whitehouse added.
Whitehouse pointed out that when margin of error is factored in, “There is no statistical case for representing the post-1997 data as anything other than a constant line.” In NASA’s and the NOAA’s lists of the 10 warmest years, the total separation between warmest and 10th warmest is 0.09 degrees Celsius, but the margin of error for each year’s data is 0.1 degrees Celsius.
For the climate alarmists, every heat wave or cold snap, rainstorm or sunny day is a sign of global warming, and they will bend themselves into pretzels trying to explain things like how the current record cold throughout much of the country is actually global warming (the “polar vortex”), or the California drought that began with a judge’s order to cut off water supplies to farmers is the effect of too much industry.
Fifteen years of flat temperatures in this thinking is just a “pause” rather than a failed theory or an indication that other factors than industry drive the weather around the globe.
The irony is that at the root of climate alarmism is a lack of respect for nature. The Earth has been heating and cooling throughout its history, whether you believe that history is measured in thousands or billions of years. Just like with animals, there are a number of factors that can cause temporary heating or cooling, and there are mechanisms for dealing with temperature changes as well as the causes of temperature changes.
The Earth is not a static system affected by only one random factor. Properly seen, it’s a roiling, wriggling, vibrating, belching, spinning, jumping mass of constant movement and change in which every part serves multiple purposes as weight or counterweight to the rest. Trying to plant your government-sponsored scientific flag in one spot and say “here, this is the only point to consider” is like trying to pin down the surface in a cauldron full of hot, bubbling soup.
But that doesn’t stop loudmouth know-nothings like Kerry, who by the way served in Vietnam, from flying halfway around the world in his greenhouse gas-belching jet to scare students with tales of how climate change is “the world’s most fearsome weapon of mass destruction.”
Actually, the most fearsome weapon of mass destruction is the pseudoscientific ignorance and fear-mongering being churned out by Kerry and the rest of the Obama Administration.
