Liberals have revved up their favorite McCarthyite maneuver today by screaming “racism” over the Mattel toy company’s new Barbie doll because of its Mexican “Day of the Dead” theme.
This month, with Halloween and the Mexican holiday both just over a month away, the Mattel toy company introduced its new ethnic Barbie with a “Day of the Dead” theme called the ía de los Muertos Barbie.
Day of the Dead is a Mexican holiday celebrating the lives of deceased loved ones. It takes place from October 31 to November 2.
The holiday was recently a theme of a major Pixar animated film entitled Coco.
Naturally, leftists immediately claimed that the doll was “offensive” and “racist.”
According to the New York Post:
“Is this a bad joke or what?” tweeted a self-proclaimed “Mexico expert” and travel blogger. “Día de los Muertos is one of our most sacred traditions in Mexico dating back to prehispanic days. Stop production!”
“Cultural appropriation at its worst!” tweeted another.
Many jumped to social media to attack the new doll:
Doesn't this count as "cultural appropriation" by their standards 🤔?
Or did Mexicans appropriate Barbie 🧐 before making this doll? https://t.co/ZXktUIf9Nz
