With the Trump economy still firing on all cylinders, Ford Motors has decided to bag its planned plant construction in Mexico and will instead expand plants here in the U.S. and add jobs for Americans. MAGA, baby!
Last week, the venerable car manufacturer said it had jettisoned plans to move jobs to Mexico and rebuild in Michigan.
According to USA Today:
“Make no mistake about it — Ford is a global automaker but our home is right here in the United States,” Fields said at a press conference.
This is a bit of a surprising move because only a few weeks ago Ford was still defending its plans to invest in Mexico.
Even with this reversal, the company still plans to move manufacturing of the next-generation Focus sedan to Mexico, but instead of spending billions to build a new plant, it will be located in the existing Hermosillo, Mexico, plant.
Naturally the unions loved the announcement.
“We’ve seen our jobs go overseas,” UAW Vice President Jimmy Settles told the media. “It’s evident today that Ford is rewarding us for our hard work.”
Trump had been slamming Ford for all its plans to move manufacturing and jobs to Mexico.
However, he did celebrate a similar move by Ford in September.
“Ford has abruptly killed a plan to sell a Chinese-made small vehicle in the U.S. because of the prospect of higher U.S. Tariffs.” CNBC. This is just the beginning. This car can now be BUILT IN THE U.S.A. and Ford will pay no tariffs!
