An art gallery owner in New York City was beaten by a mob of teenagers because he dared to wear a Donald Trump “Make America Great Again” hat on the streets of the Big Apple.
Jahangir “John” Turan, a man of Turkish heritage, says that he was attacked on Canal Street near Greene Street in Manhattan on Tuesday.
The 42-year-old man said he was walking near a group of 15 or so teenagers when one of the women in the group reached out and grabbed his red MAGA hat.
Then others began pushing him and at some point, his face slammed into a pole.
“One girl flipped my hat, and then within five, eight seconds, I got pushed from the back and my face hit the scaffolding pole,” Turan told the media, according to Fox 5.
The victim said he only had purchased the hat a a few hours earlier during a visit to New York’s Trump Tower.
“I love President Trump. I think he’s doing a great job,” Turan said.
Turan added that the group of mostly young people yelled “Fuck Trump” and stomped on him.
He is not sure if there will be any permanent damage to his eye. But the attack left with him a fractured cheekbone.
“It’s kind of ridiculous to get beat up like this for wearing a hat,” he added.
“This is America, you know? Everybody has their right,” Turan said sadly. “To wear a hat like this, this can happen to you. That’s sad.”
Thus far, the NYPD have no suspects, but Turan said he hopes an arrest is made.
