Mayors Against Illegal Guns: Don’t Bring A Gun To An Axe Fight; Just Use Your Fists

The saying goes, “Don’t bring a knife to a gunfight.” But if you’re a member of Michael Bloomberg’s gun control group Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG), it would be, “Don’t bring a gun to a knife fight,” because that would be unfair. Besides, it’s a moot point, because there shouldn’t even be any guns in the first place. All guns are “illegal.”

These gun grabbers have their own rules of engagement when dealing with criminals who seek to do others harm. If someone has a knife, and he tries to do you harm, it wouldn’t be fair for you to have or use a gun. That would give you an unfair advantage over the criminal. Everything has to be “equal.” In other words, let the criminal have the advantage over you.

So, what are you supposed to do? Here was MAIG Director Mark Glaze’s advice on Chris Matthews’ Hardball:

MARK GLAZE: Very often somebody will come at you. They might want to have a fistfight. They might come at you with an axe handle.

CHRIS MATTHEWS: Would you consider the guy with the axe handle armed or not?

MG: Not with a gun.

CM: I would consider him armed [laughter].

MG: I have a word for him. I grew up in Colorado where my dad was a gun dealer, and a guy who shoots somebody who has anything other than a gun when they could have done something else like talk or fight with their fists

CM: How do you talk to a guy with an axe handle?

MG: Well, you fight him. You run away. You deescalate the situation.

Love it. Someone comes at you with an axe handle, try to “deescalate the situation.” And you’ve got less than a second to “negotiate” with the guy. Or just run away. Whatever you do, don’t threaten him with a gun. Violence is never the answer. (Unless you’re one of these guys, in which case violence is most often the answer.)

So, if you ever encounter a maniac coming at you, wielding an axe handle or a knife, and you’re packing heat, it would be best to throw your gun away and try to first negotiate with the guy. You know, “deescalate the situation.” After a few seconds of receiving many beatings or slashings, try to run away. Always make sure the criminal has the advantage over you. If you end up dying, then that’s just more reason to ban axe handles or knives.
