In case you are not familiar with the case of Meriam Ibrahim, allow me to give you a quick refresher:
“Ibrahim is the daughter of a Sudanese father and Ethiopian mother. When she was six years old, her father left the family and she was then raised by her mother who is also a Christian. The Sudanese government however, still considered her to be a Muslim since her father was a Muslim.”
“Her decision not to renounce her Christian faith and her marriage has resulted in Ibrahim being sentenced to be hanged to death after receiving 100 lashes for adultery (for being illegally married to an American Christian). She is currently in prison with her 20 month old son. Oh yeah, Ibrahim is pregnant with the couple’s second child. Sudanese authorities plan to wait till she has the baby and then hang her.”
After her baby daughter was born in prison, Meriam’s attorney managed to get her released. Her freedom was short lived as Meriam and her family prepared to leave Sudan. However, she was arrested at the airport on charges of having falsified papers. Her papers turned out to be real and with the help of a handful of US politicians, the Family Research Council and the prayers of millions of Christians worldwide, Meriam was released last week.
Meriam and her family flew from Sudan to Italy. According to the reports, her family has plans to come to the US since her husband, Daniel Wani is a US citizen.
Tony Perkins with the Family Research Council thanked the following politicians who worked to get Meriam and her family released from prison and Sudan. They are still working to pave the way for them to come to the US:
Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC)
Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ)
Rep. John Boehner (R-OH)
Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ)
Frank Wolf (R-VA)
Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO)
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)
Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA)
Note that only one of the politicians involved was a Democrat and the rest were Republicans.
We all need to thank God for answering our prayers and working a miracle to free Meriam Ibrahim, who was only days away from her death sentence.
