I was at the dentist getting my teeth cleaned. The hygienist and I often talk politics. She told me that her 24-year-old daughter claimed that the recent violence is Trump’s fault. I quickly ran down some Clinton and Obama-era acts of violence. Many people have short, selective, or no memories of past events. I’m here to remind them.
Let’s start with the 51-day Waco Siege during Bill Clinton’s presidency where more than 80 people died. “The events near Waco, and the siege at Ruby Ridge less than 12 months earlier were both cited as the primary motivations behind the Oklahoma City bombing that took place exactly two years later” and resulted in the deaths of 168 people and 680 injured. Nineteen of the victims were children. “The blast destroyed or damaged 324 other buildings within a 16-block radius, shattered glass in 258 nearby buildings, and destroyed or burned 86 cars, causing an estimated $652 million worth of damage.”
As is typical, Liberals blamed it on toxic talk radio. So what do we make of the toxic talk of anti-Trumpers?
The deaths were caused by a bomb made from fertilizer and fuel oil. Not a gun was fired.
Here is Timothy McVeigh’s response to the mayhem he caused:
“I didn’t define the rules of engagement in this conflict. The rules, if not written down, are defined by the aggressor. It was brutal, no holds barred. Women and kids were killed at Waco and Ruby Ridge. You put back in [the government’s] faces exactly what they’re giving out.”
During Pres. Obama’s presidency, we had the Fort Hood shootings in 2009 (13 deaths, 20 injured) and 2014 (4 deaths, 14 injured), the San Bernardino shootings (14 deaths, 24 injured), Sandy Hook shootings (28 deaths), Orlando nightclub shootings (49 deaths, 58 injured). Let’s not forget the perpetual violence and deaths on the streets of Chicago, about 600 per year.
Let’s not forget how the Republicans were targeted by a Democrat supporter who left four injured but wanted to kill all of them.
