Muslims Protesting Anti-Semitism Legislation

California State Assemblywomen Linda Halderman (R) and Bonnie Lowenthal (D) have sponsored an anti-Semitism bill into the California State Assembly.  The bill, known as AR35 or HR35 condemns anti-Semitism in the public colleges and universities in the state of California.  The end of the resolution reads:

“Resolved, That the Assembly recognizes recent actions by officials of public postsecondary educational institutions in California and calls upon those institutions to increase their efforts to swiftly and unequivocally condemn acts of anti-Semitism on their campuses and to utilize existing resources, such as the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights’ working definition of anti-Semitism, to help guide campus discussion about, and promote, as appropriate, educational programs for combating anti-Semitism on their campuses.”

Once the resolution was introduced, it didn’t take long for Muslim lobby groups to condemn the bill and start an intensive lobby effort to defeat it.  CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations) quickly sent a letter to members of the California state assembly stating that the resolution threatens the First Amendment rights of free speech and grossly mischaracterizes the climate of Jewish students on California campuses.

They also claimed in their letter that the goal of the resolution had little to do with anti-Semitism and everything to do with the effort to ‘stifle geopolitical debates in academic and university settings.’  The letter was signed by:

  • American Muslims for Palestine
  • Asian Law Caucus
  • Center for Constitutional Rights
  • Council on American-Islamic Relations, California
  • Jewish Voice for Peace
  • National Lawyers Guild-Los Angeles Chapter
  • Students for Justice in Palestine, UC Irvine
  • Students for Justice in Palestine, UC Riverside
  • Students for Justice in Palestine, UC San Diego
  • Students for Justice in Palestine, University of Southern California

Yet despite the claims from the Muslim groups that there is a lack of evidence to support such legislation, Halderman cited the example of how may students showed up at the annual Israel Apartheid Week and fell down, acting that they were Palestinians murdered by Jews.

It’s ironic and hypocritical for the Muslim organizations to come out in such support of robust political debate when they are completely 100% intolerant of any one questioning Islam or condemning it like they condemn Judaism.  Robert Spencer, director of commented about this saying:

“The idea of their coming down in favor of ‘robust political debate’ made me grin.”

Islamic groups want open discussion about anyone else’s religion except their own.  You can mock the God of the Bible, the Bible, Jesus Christ, the Star of David, Christianity, Judaism but don’t you dare say one word against Allah, Muhammad or Islam.  If you do, you may find yourself being the target of an honor killing.
