If evangelicals need a reason to vote for Donald Trump in 2020, the fact that nearly 900 abortions clinics have been defunded and shut down since he took office is enough.
After Trump was elected in 2016, the federal government changed rules for Title X funding, and the result has been the defunding of 876 abortion clinics across the country.
The 50-year-old Title X law helps fund the healthcare of poor people who don’t have health insurance by distributing $260 million in family planning grants annually.
But the new Trump rule bans healthcare providers from referring patients to abortion clinics and using federal funds when doing so. This, the pro-death advocates say, has become a way of depriving abattoirs of federal cash.
Since the rules change, many abortion provides have closed up shop all across the nation and now, “five states have no Title X abortion clinics, saying the Trump administration rule would restrict patients’ ability to get an abortion and abortion counseling,” USA Today wrote.
“Program recipients in Maine, Oregon, Utah, Vermont and Washington all withdrew,” the paper added.
Planned Parenthood’s operations have been particularly hard hit:
Planned Parenthood, which served 40% of all Title X patients before rejecting the funding in August, was the sole grantee in Utah. Alexis McGill Johnson, acting president and CEO of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, previously told USA TODAY that Utah patients may see longer wait times or need to drive hundreds of miles for services.
“It will simply be impossible for other health centers to fill the gap,” Johnson said.
Naturally, left-wing alarmists are trying to call the defunding an act of “racism” by claiming that only low income, black neighborhoods are affected by the rules change.
Well, perhaps they are right, but not in the way they think.
Abortion itself is “racist” in as much as black women have almost as many abortions as white women despite that blacks account for far less of the female population.
Although black Americans comprise 13.4% of the U.S. population, they accounted for 36.0% of the abortions in 2015, which was almost identical to the percentage of abortions (36.9%) that year among white Americans, who make up 76.6% of the population.
As the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) documented in its Abortion Surveillance report for 2015 – released on Nov. 23, 2018 – there were 124,893 white abortions and 121,829 black abortions that year, a difference of 3,064 babies killed.
So, abortion is racist. But it is racist against blacks, not something that helps them.
