Netanyahu Subject of Spanish Arrest Warrant

In 2010, the Israeli Navy blockaded access to the Gaza Strip. A number of ships and boats containing pro-Palestinian activists attempted to break up the blockade. Upon boarding the Mavi Marmara, one of the activists’ ships, Israeli sailors were attacked by activists carrying knives and clubs. When Israeli sailors began to defend themselves, a gun battle ensued, resulting in the deaths of nine activists.

Most of the activists that were killed belonged to the IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation which is a non-governmental organization of Turkish Muslims. There are allegations that the IHH has ties to Obama’s buddies, the Muslim Brotherhood.

In response to the 2010 incident, a Spanish judge has recently issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman, former defense ministers Moshe Ya’alon and Ehud Barak, former Interior Minister Eli Yishai, former Intelligence Minister Dan Meridor, and Minister without Portfolio Bennie Begin.

The arrest warrant was prompted by a lawsuit filed by three Spaniards that were on board the Mavi Marmara at the time of the Israeli boarding. Their lawsuit was originally taken to the International Criminal Court at The Hague, but that case was dismissed. Last week, Spanish Judge Jose De La Mata made it known that he discovered a loophole that allowed him to take action by issuing the warrants in Spain.

Emmanuel Nahshon, Foreign Minister of Israel told The Times of Israel:

“It’s a provocation. The Israeli embassy in Madrid is in touch with Spanish General Prosecutor in order to close the file as promptly as possible.”

Nahshon then told Yedioth Ahronoth, another Israeli media:

“This is an issue that has been subject to legal proceedings for several years now. We hope that the case will be closed soon, as it should have been a long time ago.”

The actions of the Spanish judge indicate to me his anti-Israel personal agenda. All reports indicated that the IHH members on board the ship started the violence by physically threatening the Israeli navy personnel. I know if someone was coming at me with a knife or club with the intention of causing bodily harm that I wouldn’t hesitate to shoot them either and that’s what the Israeli sailors did. It was the IHH flotilla that tried to breach the blockade. In every aspect of the situation, they were the ones at fault. They acted in self-defense so why is the Spanish judge issuing a warrant against Israel’s leaders and furthermore, what legal jurisdiction does Spain have over Israeli waters?

I’m surprised that Barack Obama hasn’t joined in the lawsuit against Netanyahu since he has acted against Israel for the past six and half years.
