Investigators are now saying that the camera outside Jeffrey Epstein’s prison cell has no usable footage on it from the time that the accused pedophile committed suicide.
The camera in question was focused on the hallway outside Epstein’s cell, according to Breitbart News.
A second camera has better footage, investigators said. But neither camera will help clear up just how Epstein died.
The government did not explain why the closest camera was not working properly.
“Earlier this month, New York City’s chief medical examiner determined that Epstein died on August 10th from hanging himself. According to the New York Post, the millionaire investor was found with a bedsheet wrapped around his neck that was tied to his bunk bed,” Breitbart reported.
Epstein was in jail awaiting trial on a long string of sexual abuse charges in a trial that was sure to drag in the names of many high-profile people who have also been accused of having sex with the underaged girls Epstein is accused of trafficking.
The suspected sex criminal had already been thought to have tried to kill himself in prison once before after he was found semiconscious in his cell with marks in is cell on July 23.
Seemingly inexplicably, Epstein was taken off suicide watch not long afterward.
Epstein’s attorneys Martin G. Weinberg, Reid Weingarten, and Michael Miller, released a statement saying that they want a full investigation into their client’s death and they are not satisfied with the coroner’s determination.
“The defense team fully intends to conduct its own independent and complete investigation into the circumstances and cause of Mr. Epstein’s death including if necessary legal action to view the pivotal videos — if they exist as they should — of the area proximate to Mr. Epstein’s cell during the time period leading to his death,” the legal team said.
“No one should die in jail,” the attorneys added. “And no one, not Mr. Epstein who was presumed innocent and had violated no prison disciplinary rule, and not anyone should be imprisoned under the harsh, even medieval conditions at the MCC where Mr. Epstein spent his final hours. His safety was the responsibility of the MCC. It is indisputable that the authorities violated their own protocols.”
Despite Epstein’s death, prosecutors insist they are going to stay on the case.
