I can remember where I was when I heard that President Kennedy had been shot. I can also remember where I was when I heard my first Ry Cooder song: sitting in a theater in Durham, North Carolina, watching the closing credits for Goin’ South. The movie wasn’t very good, but the closing credits were spectacular.
I normally don’t like political protest songs. But I make an exception for Cooder’s No Banker Left Behind. The melody isn’t much, but it’s the sentiment that counts.
‘These times call for a very different kind of protest song. ‘Where Have All the Flowers Gone?’ We’re way down the road from that’. Ry Cooder
