Never satisfied with an inch when they can steal a mile, anti-gun leftists in the Senate have loaded up on even more gun control demands after GOP Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell caved in to demands that he bring new background checks to the floor.
Leader McConnell noted recently that background checks “will probably lead the discussion” when the Senate reconvenes in September. The promise comes on the heels of two mass shootings in as many days this month, one in El Paso and a second in Dayton.
However, the upper chamber is not only not yet in session, it doesn’t even have a schedule. Regardless, the Democrats are already agitating for even more anti-Second Amendment measures to be put on the docket.
According to The Hill, Anthony Brown (D-MD) said, “Meaningful action doesn’t end with signing a bipartisan background checks bill, which is important. We have to ban high-capacity magazines that allowed the Dayton shooter and so many others to fire off tens of rounds in merely seconds. We have to ban assault weapons to get these weapons of war off our streets.”
Anti-Second Amendment Group Newtown Action also tried to put on the pressure, tweeting, “A @HouseJudiciary committee with jurisdiction over firearms is expected to return early from the 6-wk congressional recess to consider additional gun-control measures in hopes of upping pressure on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) to act.”

House Democrats are pushing for another “assault weapons ban,” even though no such weapons are sold to Americans. And even though the last one that went away in the 1990s didn’t do a single thing to stop crime.
Nearly 200 Democrats in the House have signed onto support gun banning legislation sponsored by Rep. David N. Cicilline (D-RI).
Nearly every look at the 1990s era “assault weapons ban” has concluded that the law had little to no impact on crime.
Worse, liberals can’t fully define what an “assault weapon” even is. Indeed, REAL assault weapons (machine guns and other fully automatic weapons of war) are already illegal to sell to most Americans and very few sit in private hands.
In essence, leftists are raising alarms about guns that barely exist anywhere outside army bases and aren’t being used in crime or mass shootings in the first place.
