Obama Rides to the Defense of Radical Islam Against Free Speech

President Obama’s speech to the United Nations was a “great, big, warm, fuzzy blanket,” former ambassador John Bolton said.

It’s a perfect description for a speech in which Obama perpetuated his Administration’s lie that the attacks in Libya, Egypt and elsewhere were caused by an insipid YouTube video, then came out strongly in favor of tolerance.

Obama threw a bone — or more aptly pretended to throw a bone — to Americans who remember free speech:

“Americans have fought and died around the globe to protect the right of all people to express their views — even views that we profoundly disagree with.”

But then he turned around and condemned anyone who would dare to criticize Islam:

“The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam but to be credible those who condemn that slander must also condemn the hate we see in the images of Jesus Christ that are desecrated or churches destroyed or the Holocaust that is denied.”

Re-read that line closely. It’s really a masterful piece of verbal legerdemain. In one sentence, King Obama is coming down on the side of Islam while pretending to defend Christianity and Judaism. In his own words, to be credible, those who condemn “slandering” of Islam should likewise condemn things like desecration of churches, Holocaust denial, depicting crucifixes in jars of urine, etc.

Those are all things Obama has never done, to my recollection.

What he has done is travel the country holding up the “Innocence of Muslims” video to cover up his own foreign policy failure, incite the Muslim rabble and castigate those who would criticize his precious Islam.

And now he has given the United Nations the message that he feels free speech should be restricted so that no one may criticize Islam — and that he would go along with such restrictions so long as they make a show of protecting Christianity and Judaism so he can sell them at home.

When the attacks began across the Muslim world and the Libyan ambassador was killed, there were Mideast security experts who immediately pegged efforts to blame the YouTube video as a culminating move in a years-long plan by Islamists to make slandering of Islam and Mohammed an international crime.

The president of the United States has now shown he is willing to go along with that.
