How much experience can a doctor get in 7 years to qualify him to be the Surgeon General of the United States?
President Barack Obama has nominated Dr. Vivek Hallegere Murthy to become America’s 19th Surgeon General and now his confirmation hearings are drawing closer. He completed his residency in 2006 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. In his short seven years since that time, Murthy has become a physician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a hospitalist attending physician and instructor at Harvard Medical School.
Perhaps most notably is that Murthy also founded and serves as the president of Doctors for America. Launched in 2008 in coordination with Obama’s presidential campaign and push for Obamacare, they are boasting a membership of over 16,000 doctors and medical students. The organization’s website states:
“Doctors for America is a national movement of more than 16,000 physicians and medical students in all 50 states working together to improve the health of the nation and to ensure that everyone has access to affordable, high quality health care.
“We envision a fair, effective and affordable health care system — one fundamentally transformed and guided by the core values of doctors and our patients.
“Doctors are critical to rebuilding our health care system. From the front lines of our health system, we use our stories and experiences — anchored in our relationships with patients — to improve the health care system for everyone.”
In reading through their website, I think their name should be changed to Doctors for Obama instead of for America. Not only does the organization fully support Obamacare, but they also support Obama’s anti-Second Amendment gun control policies.
In 2013, the Florida legislature contemplated a bill that would prevent doctors from including the information concerning whether or not their patient is a gun owner, from their medical record. Doctors for America were instrumental in stopping the bill from becoming law. The organization has also been circulating a petition to force Congress to pass stricter gun control laws.
A tweet from Murthy was quoted in Investors Business Daily stating:
“Tired of politicians playing politics w/ guns, putting lives at risk b/c they’re scared of NRA. Guns are a health care issue.”
If guns are a healthcare issue, then so are tobacco and alcoholic products along with cars, knives, marijuana and bullying. They all lead to untimely deaths that could easily be avoided.
Murthy’s anti-gun and anti-Second Amendment stance has also caused the NRA to strongly oppose his nomination to the position of Surgeon General. In a statement released by the NRA and posted on their website just over a week ago, they stated:
“The National Rifle Association strongly opposes the confirmation of Vivek Hallegere Murthy, M.D., M.B.A., as United States Surgeon General.
“The Surgeon General has the important tasks of providing the American public with information to better inform decisions related to their health and directing much of the federal government’s public health efforts. In order for these roles to be carried out effectively, the public must trust that the Surgeon General’s actions are based on empirical and scientific evidence, rather than political or ideological motives. In this regard, Dr. Murthy’s record of political activism in support of radical gun control measures raises significant concerns about his ability to objectively examine issues pertinent to America’s 100 million firearm owners and the likelihood he would use the office of Surgeon General to further his preexisting campaign against gun ownership.”
So what qualifies a doctor with only 7 years of experience after completing his residency to become the Surgeon General of the United States? In Murthy’s case, it can only be his undying loyalty to his idol, Barack Hussein Obama and his commitment to do whatever he can to further Obama’s un-American socialist agenda to change America once and for all.
Please join the efforts of the NRA in contacting your US Senator and insisting that he or she vote against the confirmation of Dr. Vivek Hallegere Murthy as the youngest Surgeon General in US history!
