New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez told reporter ‘gotta run’ when asked about her shutdown paycheck…
“I’ve gotta run,” the Democratic Socialist told the New York Post on Thursday after being asked about her salary, rushing for a mock swearing-in with newly elected House Speak Nancy Pelosi.
Next time we have a gov shutdown, Congressional salaries should be furloughed as well.
It’s completely unacceptable that members of Congress can force a government shutdown on partisan lines & then have Congressional salaries exempt from that decision.
Have some integrity. https://t.co/BgueNNjf0f

Ocasio-Cortez later reiterated her position, saying “it’s only fair” that members of Congress would lose their paychecks during the shutdown forcing them to be more responsible.
“Speaking as a working-class member-elect, I think it’s only fair. It would also cause members who actually depend on their salary to think twice about leadership and take a shutdown vote more seriously,” she said.
(Spoiler alert: most members of Congress are already wealthy!)

TDC:
New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said lawmakers should refuse to get paid during the partial government shutdown but she won’t say if that rule applies to her.
As the New York Post reports, when asked Thursday about receiving her congressional salary, the self-proclaimed Democratic socialist apparently had other things on her mind, bolting down a Capitol Hill hallway and telling the reporter, “I’ve gotta run!”
It was on social media in December that Ocasio-Cortez castigated members of Congress for accepting a salary when some members of the public have to do without. More
I think they all should give up the salaries and perks, along with @SpeakerPelosi @SenSchumer @AOC no partisan divides on this ruling. They want to tax more, let see them give up on government funded insurance, college funding and salaries and live like there constituents do

Straight out of the liberal playbook 1960… “Do as I say not as I do.”
Is she’s trying to give herself some wiggle room by saying “next time” versus saying “during government shutdowns, Congressional salaries should be furloughed as well.”
Members of Congress earn $174,000 a year.
